I need help connecting my tack wire to my distributor on my 1981 Vette:confused, not sure where it goes, anyone have some pics. I have heard it connects to a filter at the distributor, my car is all stock.

I'll go thru what I have and see if I have it.
If not I'll take 1 or 2 for you...

Thanks Bill, by the way my Vette was born 4/8/1981. I like your license plate.

here you go
Tach plug is on left
mine was born Sept 1980

The tach lead from the factory has an in line filter that's on the EGR selenoids, comes from the firewall, then the filter, then is routed to to the distributor cap. If the EGR parts and the filter aren't there or aren't used anymore, the tach lead actually originates from the harness on the firewall near the wiper motor. It's a tan or light brown wire with a brown connector on it.

Hope this helps!

if it's like my 1980

then the filter will need to be attached/mounted to a solid ground. when I changed my carb to edlebrock and put in the adapter for the accelerator cable, I lost that ground and my tach was jumping around all over the place every time I went over a bump. :chuckle

Then I attached it to a ground and my tach smoothed out.

Hope that helps :w
