I want to make a vacuum bleader system to bleed out my brakes. I am thinking about using a hard plastic jug like an Apple juice jug and use my shop vac to suck a vacuum in it right through the bottle top. Drill a small hole in the upper section of the bottle neck and insert a tube. Then connect the tube to the bleeder screw and start the shop vac. Will the shop vac create enough suction to actually draw fluid from the brake system?

Sounds like allot of trouble to go through for something you can buy at a parts store cheep.

I would have to agree with JonM. Not to mention that the vacuum pump is just a great tool to have around for so many other things.

Way too much vacuum!

JonM has the tool you need Paul. Your idea sounds fine, but there will be two problems. One will be the brake fluid filling the bottle, causing a high vacuum of air in the bottle to, either collapse the container, or the fluid will begin to enter the vacuum's suction hole. By the time you flip the switch on, and shut it off just as quick on the shop vac, you'll suck the M/C dry, and have air in the lines. I see more problems than it's worth. Mityvac is the way to go. To tell you the truth, my biggest fear is when you turn on that shop vac, you might start sucking in part of the rear clip of the Vette and clog the tube. But seriously, bleed the very first caliper farthest from the M/C. Sequence is: R/R, then L/R, then R/F, and lastly, L/F.

The hand vac pump is the way to go, works great and you don't need a helper to bleed your brakes. I made a reservoir from a 1 quart mason jar and have used the same setup for more than 20 years on many cars. Makes an easy and no-mess job of the whole thing.
