Hi

While driving around today my temp gauge was at approx 197 degrees until l pulled into my garage when it shot through the roof. The roof is completely off the scale and then some. My fan went on, but when l checked my digital read out on the dash it read 197 degrees.

What's going on and is this a big deal??

Alan

p.s. Does the name Yugo ring a bell?????????????????

Once again!!!!!!!!!!

Today when l started my car the temp gauge was at the begining and was fine until l stopped for breakfast and restarted her again.

After driving 4 miles and pulling into my garage the temp gauge was off the scale again.

l shut the car off and waited a couple of minutes and restarted it again, but the guge still showed beyond 260 degrees. The digital still showed 198 degrees and the fan didn't come on.

Thanks

Alan

Last Try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you telling me that this event is a rarity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To shoot up that quickly, I would tend to think the gauge is the problem. Especially if the digital is reading correctly. Let it cool down completely ( if you haven't already ) and try it again. If the gauge spikes, I would think you'ld have your answer.

Gauge gone wild!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

It has to be the gauge, and it spikes when the temp gets to around 190 degrees.

This is a dealer problem.

erratic temp guage

Kingman, There are two sending units one in the front and one on the driver's side of the engine, about midway from rear to front of block. My sending unit on the driver's side was bad and doing exactly what you describe. $20.00 and a little replacement anti-freeze and no more problem. Good luck.

Ron

Thanks

Hi Ron

My gauge all of a sudden corrected itself and is running normal. The next time my car is in l'm going to change the unit.

At least it was under a $100.
