temp.sending unit

On my 77 Vette the temp. sending unit is on the right side just above the starter is this right is this correct.

No, the temp sending unit is between 1 & 3 sparkplugs on the left side of motor.

same as the 78, driver's side between 1 and 3. you might be looking at the oil pressure sending unit.
