Ok i must say though I love my vette i bought it brand new in 2000 i must say it seems GM is always looking to jiuce you when you bring it in for service I had a toyota supra before this and i must say i never felt ripped off taking it back to the dealer everytime i take my vette in its like they have their meat hooks in ya now.I got screwed over and lied to two yrs ago when they were supposedly going to fix a trans problem which i kept having to take it back finally it was a night mare but not to get into that too m,uch i now go to a priivate mechanic til i started haviong if you saw on another post i been having trouble with it starting the last three days so thinking its probably the security system i should take it to the dealer

Well the service guy tells me its 100 bucks to diagnose then theyll call me after i had it towed there he said anything eklse you want looked at since its here I mentioned two other minor things i figured since its there im getting charged 100 bucks anyway so might as well see what these other 2 minor things are he then says ok makes a note then gives me the slip tio sign it says $210.00 im like why 210 he said well 100 to diagnose the starting then 55 each for the other 2 things now it takes all of about 10 mins to put a scanner on and diagnose especially these other two things are so minor i thought it was included you mean to tell me 210 bucks for maybe 15 minjs of scanning if that and they didnt even fix anything. Now is it any wonder GM is going out of biz???

How can you evebn feel sorry for them the service stinks everytime i go in there i feel like a cow going into the slaughter house when i layed down my 50k to buy the car they wee totally different and im sorrty but it was a totally different experience with service on my vette then it was on the supra .BTW it was two different dealerships for the trans and this problem so its not just one bad dealership

I do believe in Karma and its shame but greed will kill you in the end and thats why I believe GM is all but dead

But one could thing i did short the stock after my last expiernce with them 2 yrs ago and it was at 32 bucjks a share so made a nice chunk there

Sorry about your experience at the dealer, hope this guy is one of those that get cut. As far as your lock, what was the problem and did they resolve it for you?

Thats where I went to pine belt..Im telling you , they are all into jacking your bill so you they get a nice commission its a damn shame but like i said they have only themselfs to blame whyGM is bankrupt , but I brought it there at 1 i followed the tow up and told the service manager i wanna stick around just to watch to see how the tech diagnoses it since i think its som, ething with the security and of course he says oh well we probably won't get to it today, yea obviously because im there im sorry but i have zero trust in the dealerships with GM .But now im real scared if he was trying to get me for 210 bucks just to diagnose god for bid that actually fix something whats that going to cost

Just another little tidbit 2 months ago i had the battery changed the stereo then was cut so i called the dealership to see if they could get my code over the phone because my mechabnic had done it for me one time before they told me we cant give that over the phone you have to bring it in we have to scan it to find the code and its $125 to scan and retrieve the code i went to my mechanic he called the dealership he obviously has connections they gave him the code he popped it in no charge of course i gave him 20 but thats my point exactly i bought a 50k car off you you cant give me the code? then on top of that to lie to me and say you have no idea til you scan it, at least tell me the truth and say its 125 why lie about it and say you have to scan it just another reason to lose trust in these thiefs

But thanks for the kind words guys ill let you know what the problem was i guess tommorrow ..crossing my fingers hoping they don't juice me too bad...lol

It was experiences of my own that got me into working on my cars 17 years ago.

I had a story like yours that led me to teach myself about EFI. I've never looked back since.

I live in Houston and I've never felt like they were trying to stick it to me. I will say I use the same service writer (Harry) every time. I do make reference to the survey from the last visit and remind him I will be filling it out. In all fairness I have only had gas cap issues with my C6.

True, I keeep saying it, that the only way not to get ripped off is to do it yourself , im jusdt not mechanically inclined but maybe its time to start learning ,I could go on and on about rediculous things ive been told by mechanics i used to have a freind who is a mechanic , wheni told him bout some of the things he was like are you an idiot bring it to me, that solved all my problems he was great unfortunately he moved far about 5 yrs ago , so maybe ill have to learn myself

Oh, ok I just assumed you went to Ocean chevy on 37. I bought a new remote at a Chevy dealer in Va. for the door locks and they said $35 to learn the code:boogie:boogie. Thanks to the CAC I did it myself, and I couldnt believe what they were gonna charge me $35 for. Bunch of crooks:puke

I took my '89 to the dealer once...ok twice. I had them change out some transmission seals. This should have been an easy thing for them to do, right? They were dripping slightly, but I hate drips of any kind. When I got the car back with the new seals, it was worse than it was before! Instead of spots on the garage floor, there were puddles of transmission fluid. When I took it back to them, they tried to tell me that it was just "residual" transmission fluid from the previous leaks. Ummm....no. "Residual" isn't going to create puddles of trans fluid nor is it going to take to fluid level down to half full in six days! Even if it was residual, I have to wonder why they didn't clean that stuff up? They swore up and down they could see no leak. Hmmm, maybe because when you boneheads got it it was warm and the seals had expanded....duh!!!! I did tell them that this only happened overnight. Sheez. I may be no mechanic, but I'm not stupid. Not only were they arguing with me, but they acted like I was bothering them. I decided "never again".

I now take my 'vette exclusively to our local Corvette specialist. It isn't as convenient to take it to him, but these folks have 30+ years working on 'vettes. You can tell they REALLY love these cars and want to see them run well as much as you do. When I sold the '89 and got the 2004, I went ahead and bought an extened warranty that allows me to take it to ANY ASE certified shop. I can take it to my Corvette shop for warranty repairs and love that. It was funny as the Chevy dealer sent me an email talking about how they would send me reminders of services needed and how to bring it to them for warranty work. Ha...FAT CHANCE. Moral of the story: find a local Corvette specialst if you can!

We all have these issues with the stealerships. Yet there is still a yearning for a mid engine, dual turbo, awd, V8 powered world class etc. car, yet they cant' maintain the regular ones. the vette is an upper dollar hobby car and yet the mechanics they have working are not fully educated or could even care. The mechanic/employees are very happy changing oil and sparkplugs on trucks and cobalts. You have to go to the REAL vette specialist dealerships >>> I think there are about 3. LOL

I am guessing you never had to work as a flat rate technician. It's kinda like you going to a resturant asking for a steak. The waiter telling you it would be $10.00. Then you adding a baked potato and a drink. When you get your bill it's $15.00. You didn't think that the flat rate technician would do that for free, would you? If you were a plumber, and quoted someone to change a toilot and while you were performing the job, the customer asked if you could replace the water pipe, also. Would you do it for free?--------------Think again

First off, every dealership are different. I have a Chevrolet dealership 3 miles from my home, But I go 45 miles to a dealership in another county to have my car serviced, because they treat you like you bought a $50K dollar car. Excellant service from Bryner Chevrolet in Jenkintown, PA A fellow CAC member who lives close by turned me on to the dealership. So perhaps you may want to do the work yourself, But try a different dealership, I've had work done at Classic Chevrolet in Moorestown, NJ and they treated me with excellant service.

i think its more the individual your dealing with and not the dealership he works for. i work in a dealer ship and i see it all the time. some people actually want to help out the customer while the guy sitting next to him just sees $$$ signs.

first off, im not defending the dealerships but i had to have my steering sensor replaced ( got the c1287 code and thanks to:CAC who told me what it was!!) which involves removing the whole colum. the cac members told me to be prepared 4 a 400 500 $ bill. much to my liking it only cost me 297$ (parts and labor). it took two days but i got her back and problem solved:) also th gm guy said they will price match any labor quote. plus plus, its all covered for a year:thumb. i live in mishawaka indiana, and the dealership is gates chevy

YupARK had the same thing happen with my trans. i had the smallest leak took it to them and they did 1600 dollars worth of seals and a wholer lot of other trans work i forgwet everything they did but every two months the thing started leaking took it back the first time they gave an excuse they forgot to clean the pan out, which sounded like crap to me this went on for opver a yr 4 times i took it in for the same leak then the fith time they gave me an attitude like buddy its past the yr warranty i almost went ballistic. Then i found silicon over paart of the trans .Then they had told me i needed something else that i took it somewhere else and the mechanic said no i didnt they then denied they ever said to the BBB that after argueing with me over this fact I actually got half my money back but the fact they outright lied they ever said that kills me

And not to bash anybody but Bowtie wtf are you talking about and that analogy was stunad . In fact il give you another analogy something else they did whjen they did the trans was replace the trans pan which i actually had done 3 months earlier at another mechanics place so obviously i didnt need that but to show the difference this mechanic charged 55 bucks for the trans pan the dealer on the invoice 35o bucks now thats like you paying 10 bucks for a steak and figuring ok ill get a potato figuring another 5 bucks and you get hit with a 30 dollar bill for just the potato

Now the problem with my car was the pass code security system in the ignition they said was bad and had to reprogram it , now i must admit im a bit naive but he didnt say change it or put a new one in he said they had to reprogram it , Maybe im stunad myself but to program my transistors and to do different programs takes all of about 10 mins i got wacked for 435 bucks seems a little outrageous to me

Well its at the point you get ripped off enough you end up learning how to do things yourself Im with you ARKVETTE . Time to learn this stuff myself

Times are tough and service is absent.

Hopefully, these economic times will shake out the lousy dealers. As folks get tighter with money- service will compete for dollars and good service will find business.

Getting my Chevrolet and/or Corvette serviced at a Chevrolet dealership is like ordering fast food at the drive-through.

When you receive your food - what is the first thing you do? You look in the bag, and IF the order is correct - you breathe a sigh of relief and actually feel a little relieved that you actually got what you paid for (nothing more).

It has been my experience with multiple Chevrolet dealers that "getting it done right" the first time is rare (warranty or customer-pay).

What an excellent analogy :beer
