Texas Here I Come!

Wouldn't bother me if a bunch of us met up in the Big D....I was planning on running up 287 to Amarillo and hooking up with Bud (Rare81) and heading north....

I'll start a thread in the Southwest or South Cenral or whatever section when the time rolls around.

You are right to worry about tumbleweeds and rattlesnakes! If you live in Dallas and don’t get out of town, you should be ok; but be careful if you take road trips. I was hit by one of those tumbleweeds in west Texas a while back & it pushed me into the next lane of traffic; then I was in Galveston the other day & I hit a rattlesnake in the road that was so big that I had to realign my Vette when I got home. Things really are bigger in Texas!!! By the way, don’t worry about the heat … that is what air conditioners are for.

But you forgot about armadillos and possums! Now this IS a true story. A couple of years ago, I was driving home at night and there was a possum in the road couldn’t decide where he wanted to go (and it was a four-lane road). I saw him well ahead of me and changed lanes. Unfortunately, at the last minute, he ran back into my lane, under my Vette, and damaged one of my side panels … not much room for error under a Corvette!

Enjoy Texas; the place is huge and has a variety of scenery … from deserts in the west, to mountains in the southwest, to the coast & beaches in the southeast, to forests in the east, not to mention to numerous lakes. The people are friendly and the taxes are low (except for the damn property taxes) … it is a great place to live.

Sounds like a plan Cee. Count me in. I work a lotta weekends though, hope I can make it.

:w Cee, Steve and others

Boy I need to venture out of the C3 and OffRoad Forums a bit more :duh

Brief: Retired 08/2004 moved to Amarillo, Texas 07/2005 and we LOVE it here ;)

Nanc and are planning to attend CruiseFest 2007 in Colorado Springs next June and we'd enjoy hosting a BBQ. It would be great to meet y'all (that's new for me, used to say you all :D ) and join in a caravan to Colorado Springs from Amarillo.

I'll try to check in here a bit more often... If you head toward Amarillo anytime, give me a shout. As I mentioned I'm retired, so I could even meet somewhere between here and Dallas. From what I've heard from the locals here in Amarillo... Dallas is one of the cities to stay clear of for us country types :D

Bud

Hey Bud,

Welcome to Texas and congrats on your retirement. Me, I have about another 20 years to work, so I'm a bit jealous.

I take it you're from the north by the new "y'all." I'm recently (about four weeks now) from PA. Grew up on Long Island and lived in Queens for a while. So for me it's "you's guys." But I'm catching on.

About CF07, I'm hoping Cee will remember to post a thread when the time comes, I think XLR8 (Jane Ann) will be looking forward as well. Colorado Springs may be a problem for me though. I'll worry about that when the time comes.

As for staying clear of Dallas, It's nothing compared to NYC where I used to work but it's growing and getting closer. The people here have been great. My problem is the Corvette wave. I used to get one for almost every Vette up north but find they're pretty much non-existent down here, oh well.

Anyway, I love it here

It's already in my Outlook calendar, I won't forget the thread. I would love to have a caravan up there, that would be a blast! BBQ at Bud's would even be better.
As for the wave there is only one thing that I can say that may explain it and I don't want anyone getting their knickers in a wad over it. There are people that buy Corvettes because of status, people that run across one and for one reason or another have them but they really don't have the passion that people like you, I and others on this forum have. I'm not saying it's bad but they may not know the history behind the car or they have no idea what it's about. I would suppose that they are the ones that don't wave. If that is their preference then so be it. I'm waving no matter what. I don't care if I'm in the 68 and see an 06 or I'm in the 06 and see a 71, they are getting a wave. I have been passionate about Corvettes since I was kid. I have been lucky enuff to own seven of them in my lifetime, I have been fortunate enuff to buy 2 of them brand new and I can tell you it has never been about status. It's been about a passion I have for the car and I assume that anyone that owns one feels that way too. If you don't wave then no skin off my back, I just consider you one of the un-informed. Hopefully after you have been waved at enuff you'll catch on!
To me, every Vette leaving Bowling Green ought to have a tag hanging from the rear view mirror that says "Don't forget to Wave".
I'm glad you are liking Texas, Coppell is beautiful and you are gonna love it this winter.....might as well post that snow shovel on e-Bay my friend!

Well put Cee.

I'll continue to wave. It didn't take me long to figure it out though. The first few Vettes I passed after my baby was delivered (Jan. '04) waved at me. Shortly after that (Feb. '04) I joined the CAC and learned the history of the wave. I too have had a passion for Corvettes since I was a kid but wasn't fortunate enough to own as many as you. This is my first one and I got it new. I absolutely love it. Soon as I'm done with work here tonight, I'm going for a ride to de-stress and de-compress. Corvettes are good for that.

A BBQ at Bud's and a caravan to cruise fest sounds really cool.

P.S. I left the snow shovels and snow-blower back in PA.
