I just got home from errands and in my mailbox was a package all the way from far off Canada. Lookie what I got - it's xmas early this year for Baby.
This is a custom bracket that Bob (Stepinwolf) uses to make installation and relocation on the factory hood latch easier during A/C installs.
I'll be using this piece over the winter when we go to install the Classic Auto Air A/C system on my car.

THANKS Bob!!! It's GREATLY appreciated.

The people on this forum are simply the BEST! :beer

I'm sure I'll probably spray it black to look more appropiate under the hood
:)

couple of thoughts to share:

1. Stepinwolf is extremely kind
2. I recall he came up with the idea of this bracket when installing a Vintage Air system, you are installing a different system that might not present the same issue.
3. The bracket is to address a problem with the hood release handle mount under the d-side dash brace (the VA system has you relocating this thing, but a problem persists), which is somewhat similar in color to what Stepinwolf chose (not a cooincidence) although you would still be free to paint it black like the handle and handle bracket itself.

Thanks for the info Jack

Yes, Bob is a great guy, no question on that. It was a pleasure to meet him while at Carlisle also
I knew Bob came up with the bracket for one of the systems and when he offered to send it to me I assumed it was for the Classic Auto Air system.
When Paul comes down and we are doing the install we will see if we need the bracket or not. If we don't I'll return it to him as there would be no point in keeping it and collecting dust on it if he could utilize it himself for future installs
I actually hadn't given the color on the bracket much though but kind of figured it was maybe just a self-etching primer or something similar and ready to get sprayed whatever color was needed. I'll worry about the color if and when I may need the bracket.

Barry,

I can't wait for your air-con install thread. That oughtta help get us through those long winter nights. ;LOL

(just a little joke, my friend ;) )

joke away my friend! The joke may be on you as there is a good chance the only thread will be when it's finished to show you the completed and working system!
Paul (Subfixer) offered to come down and help me with it (i'm sure it will realistically turn into me helping him) and he has done this A/C install before so I'm pretty positive it should go in without too much major hassle. :D

on the other hand, not that I would even consider attempting an A/C install on my own yet, but if I did, than you would be correct. That thread would turn into 20 pages or more and i'd probably get forum members coming by to help if for no other reason than to save themselves the pain of having to see that thread keep growing. ;LOL

I think it will realisitically turn into "you handing tools to him" but hey, call me psychic :L

I am with 67Heaven - let's do the math - diagnosing a run hot condition ran 4 pages, so an aftermarket install of an AC system should generate . . . . . oops sorry my calculator just exploded!

hey now, be nice......... afterall, I do have my own timing light now! ;LOL

Barry, if you can use it, you can spray it any colour you wish, however if you install it under the hood, you better have a fu*king long arm to be able to grab the hood release the handle.;LOL ;LOL

I thought it was to move the hood latch on the passenger side?
if not, what is it for?? From your comment am I to understand it's to relocate the actual hood release HANDLE under the dash? :confused

Barry,

If you end up not needing the bracket because of the AC system you choose, please do not return it to me. Keep it until someone on this Forum buys a VA system, and then you can offer it to him ( her ), and send it to them at your expence. Until then you are to be considered as the " Official Keeper of the Bracket " :L

Barry,

Please don't take this personally, but if I did not know you better, I would swear you were tring to pull my dick.:eyerole

During the installation of an AC system from Vintage, the factory hood release handle bracket, needs to be moved a couple of inches towards the center of the car, and towards the rear 1/4" so that the handle does not interfeer with the drivers side COLD AIR diffusion duct. This is what the bracket is needed for, and is an excellent solution to the relocating problem.

thank you Bob. sorry I was such an idiot about this thing.
I remember you describing the issue previously but somehow my mind was thinking it was the hood latch that had to somehow get moved slightly ( that and Paul mentioning he had ordered a different hood latch from an A/C car) and I wasn't thinking that it was the actual release handle that needed to be moved.
I understand now.
yeah, yeah, yeah, I am a bit slow at times but I DO get things if beat over the head enough times.

It actually makes a lot more sense now because I was trying to figure out how we were going to move the latch on the hood itself to line up correctly if we had to move and reposition the latch release under the hood. :eyerole

OK Jack - no smartass comments now.......... I'll just be standing safely out of the way and just hand Paul the tools.......

Larry
just for you and Bob (Heaven) I may never post a thread about it and just keep you guys wondering..........
;LOL

Barry, no offence meant, but that would be akin to telling my wife something, and asking her not to tell her mother about it, ya what-ever.
