Does a supercharger usually explode a stock LT-1? Is it generally accepted practice to strenghten the bottom end?

check out ati's web site... (i think it is procharger.com)

you can run 6psi pretty safely, assuming you don't have any other mods. (other than maybe roller rockers and exhaust)

ati runs 8psi pretty safely, because it is intercooled. With those numbers, you are looking at about 450 HP.

I don't think you could run full throttle all day with this set-up, but for a normal street car, the LT1 has a strong enough bottom to take a blower

Sweet! I could proudly say hell no that's NOT a Hemi in there (when my passenger finally could breathe again)

My perception of blown engines is that they have probably been run to death. I think it might be better in some respects to have forced air if you didn't constantly flog it. What a sleeper. I should probably be in the other forum. Thanks.

the ati is a good informative site overall... they explain how a blower works, makes more power, etc. check it out for some good info.

typically, if someone outlays the cash on a blower, they drive the hell out of the car.... supercharging is awesome, but it aint cheap:(

For a LT1 you are looking at around $6,000 just for the parts.
