This is a repair for vinyl door panels when the vinyl separates from the foam backing and bubbles appear.

Here we are, six months from the repair I made to my driver's side door vinyl. Using "GREAT STUFF" as structural repair foam was a great idea. I wish I had done it sooner. I waited too long and the vinyl stretched a little too much- but it still looks okay. The next time this happens- likely to be the passenger side door- I'll get it sooner and it will look better.

Step 1-
Remove door panel.

Step 2-
Using a dremel, CAREFULLY cut the plastic structural backing out from around the area coming up, taking EXTREME CAUTION NOT TO CUT THE VINYL ON THE OTHER SIDE. That means make the cut shallow!!

Step 3-
Clear out the dried up foam from the area. Use canned air to remove any debris left.Spray "GREAT STUFF" onto a piece of carboard. It will puff up. When it starts to rise, mix it. The idea is to REMOVE as much air from the mixture.

Step 4-
Now, CAREFULLY apply the goo to the back of vinyl. Using your hand on the OTHERSIDE, carefully press on the vinyl to ensure it retains the same shape as it originally had. When dry, carefully remove any high points of the newfiller so that the black plastic backing maybe replaced. Use epoxy or more "Great Stuff" (stirred to remove air and allowed to sit for 2 minutes!!) to re-apply the backing.

Step 5-
Put door panel back on.

(JB- hope this clears up the confusion!!)

I apologize up front for this somewhat obvious question..

What were you fixing?

Thanks in advance

JB

it sounds like part of the door panel was coming lose and you found a solid method of putting it back down.

groovy!
:D
