Hi everyone, hope you are starting to enjoy the summer. Real tough weather over the last few months, hope all in the affected areas are getting back to some kind of normal.

As many of you know, I am going to the NCRS National Convention in Novi, Michigan the week of July 18- 22. I hope to meet some of you in Canada on my way to Novi.

I am still collecting info on long time owners of corvettes, and I would like to bring some pictures of our Canadian members and their cars.

Here is a Google Map of my projected route. if you are interested in meeting me on the way, send my a post or PM so I can start putting dots on the map.

My presentation at the convention is on my 48 State Trip.

I hope to get more people to drive their cars. I guess the NCRS is a good place to start.

PM if interested. I will make two overnight stops on my way from Maine. I leave ME on Sunday July 17th. I don't know where I am stopping yet, but I will be staying near Toronto on Tuesday at a members house

Here is the map with a few dots.

Back to the Beach Weekend at Old Orchard Beach ME

Hi ,

As most of you know, I am not an avid car show attendee. I spend most of my time driving my car. This weekend was an exception. Car Clubs from MA, CT, NH and Road Island have an annual weekend car show at Old Orchard Beach here in ME. Last year my car was still being worked on for my 48 state trip and I was not able to bring my car.

Old Orchard Beach is a resort area that many Canadians come to during the summer to get some sun and fun.

I jumped in my car and drove down to see what was up. Well, as you can see by the following pictures that the show was a success. Even thought the weather was a little wet, more than 120 cars and owners showed up.

I was lucky to be ushered right to the front of the meeting place and first in line at the parade. Seems like C1 or C2 cars are still hits at shows. Only 4 C1s and 6 C2s at the show.

Fox TV network has a car show called " Rock and Roll Car show Classics " that is shown in the North East was interviewing participants and I was lucky to be interviewed about my car and my 48 State Trip last year.

I look forward to my visit to Canada on my way to Novi , MI for the NCRS National Convention. No, I am not having my car judged, but I hope to see some pretty nice cars while there. ( I am giving a presentation on my 48 state trip.)

Jack

The car is packed and Canada awaits

Hi Canadian and US members ,

I am working on my car for the trip to Novi. Got most of the suspension rebuilt, but still have to get the windshield replaced.

All my trim came off without problems, no busted clips and soft caulk was used , when I replaced it 35 years ago.

I am having a local shop take out the windshield and put in the new one. I will do the final caulking and trim install

I am getting excited as you can imagine. I took a quick trip to MA , only 250 miles and got 17.5 mpg with my 3.70 rear, M-20 , L79.

Motor just hummed at 3,200 to 3,5000 rpms.

Pictures of windshield , it got cracked outside of Salt Lake City, last summer on 48 state trip

Montreal here I come, then Ottawa, Toronto and Novi. :canadaflag:

Jack, will someone be taping your presentation? I'm not gonna be able to attend, but I SURE would like to be able to see that!
I guess that I would like to drive that route, but will have to be content with having to watch the presentation of your
adventure since I probably won't get around to driving the it myself.

Hi Andy,

I am bringing a video camera and will tape it.

If you go through the post, (Car packed and 48 states) if will give you a more detailed idea of the trip. But when I am done , I will get back to you and if I can make a CD of the presentation , I will send you one

Jack

I did go thru the "48 States" posts while you were doing the trip, and enjoyed
reading each one, but I think that a video presentation would be so much better!
There would probably be more info in the video than there was in all of the posts,
and we would get a better insight on what the trip was "really" like!
Thanks,
Andy Anderson

Travel dates

Hi , first I thought I would give some timelines of my travel. I do not know what roads I am taking yet, as you know , I tend to not travel on interstates, so.....

I am open to suggestions of routes that would be scenic, fast, not too traveled, smooth with speed limits of 50 to 70 mph if possible and not totally out of my way on getting to my next stop.

I plan to leave Cape Elizabeth , ME on Sunday, 7/17 , morning with a stay over night in the Montreal area. It is about 300 miles and that is about 6 to 7 hours with time for stops.

I leave Montreal for the Ottawa - Lake area on Monday morning , 7/18 , about 120 miles (200k) visit till Tuesday

Tuesday morning 7/19 , head to Toronto. 270 miles (453k) 6 hours later.

Spend Tuesday night Toronto,

Wednesday 7/20 spend part of day Toronto, leave for Novi in early afternoon. Get to Novi , 5-6 pm if all goes well.

I hope this helps. I will be in Novi, from Wed 7/20 to 7/23 .

Saturday , head to Huron OH on 7/23

Hey Jack, have a wonderful trip, and enjoy the heck out of it. Compared to the 48 state one, THIS one should be a breeze!

But something happened...............

Not so long ago, Bob (aka 67Heaven) was not only a regular here at the CAC but also an Admin. He decided to put aside computers and go back to playing with cars.

So , this is what happened on the way to Novi

I left Ottawa and my power steering unit was damaged by pilot error. After driving 100 miles with a not very responsive car, I took off the belt and drove the rest of the way to Novi. A power steering car without power steering.

Got the convention and asked about finding a new unit as the 1000 mile drive home in that condition did not appeal to me.

Found out that Paragon Reproductions was only a short distance away and I called and found out they had the part.

My intention was to pick up the part and install in somewhere on the way home.

I was about to leave when the President of Paragon, Steve Childs, was introduced to me. I told him of my problem, and that I was doing a presentation at the NCRS convention and that I was going to try to fix the problem with my car.

He said lets look at it, and in a few moments , my car was on a lift.

Once we saw the damage, the mechanic got to work and within a few hours I was on my way back to the convention , with a car that would now steer the way a corvette should. (no comments please)

I just want to give my endorsement to Paragon, I had not done business with them before, but will from now on. I got a tour of the facility and was very impressed with the production methods and work force knowledge and customer first altitude.

Here are some pictures of Steve and the facility. My thanks to Steve, Dave and the rest for their help in my time of need.

Thanks again Steve for making my trip to Novi a great one

I have two lost days after that, but that's another story and when I get home tomorrow, after a quick 500 mile ride, I will post pictures of Novi, cars and friends who made it possible

That means Mike, Robbie, Tom, Bob, Paul, Don, Frank and Kevin

Just too tired tonight
