ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dash is dim as hell and I am not even going to try and fix it. I have serviced this damn dashboard about 2x now and it is over.

So I am going to get together a list of all the parts I need to install standard guages in my '85 dashboard.

This is what I am looking to do:

speedo
tach
gas level
oil pressure
oil temp
coolant temp
voltage

I was looking at a C4 on this forum from Europe who has done what I am looking at doing and the interior of his/her car looks great!

If you are out there, please reply. If you know who I am refering to please mention their name.

I plan on using autometer guages and such since I use them in my dual pillar pod for tranny temp and fuel pressure.

What I need to know is what is involved with throwing away the disco kid dashboard and swapping in manual guages?

I'de appreciate all the info I can get as I plan on doing the dashboard swap this winter.

I'm almost done...

Here's what I've been up to:

It's almost complete now; I just have to repair the floors around where my roll bar was installed and then I can start reinstalling the carpeting and trim pieces.

I rewired the entire dashboard, and I mean the entire dashboard! See My Engine Project: Part III for more details.

I like that alot! But does your speedo only goto 160?

I think it is a great idea to put the 4 small guages where the dashboard switches are/were and the ses light display and such.

what all is in the dash aside from the speedo and tach?

  • oil pressure (mechanical)
  • oil temperature (mechanical)
  • fuel pressure
  • fuel level
  • water temperature (mechanical)
  • volt meter

Nice looking, Ken!

My dash works just fine but has too much lag. As soon as I get the exhaust off/wrapped/on, analog by AutoMeter is next. I will order the A-pillar dual mount having seen a C-5 with it. I wish to retain my pretty wood dash and will integrate as many gauges as possible, and spill over to the pillar.

Fuel pressure is low on my list, as once it is set, it is set. Any troubleshooting of it will be underhood or with my tape-on gauge, as before. (I figure speeds above 160 will come off the tach.) :D

BTW, any locals must see Hot Rod night at Fuddruckers in Lake Forest) just east of I-5 at El Toro Rd.) every Tuesday night. Quite a few Vettes, too.

Thanks, Dave. I have already printed the article you list below.

here is the euro dash I was speaking of earlier.

*EDIT*

the pic is too big for this forum. if anyone wants to host it and post it, let me know and i'll email the pic.

Was that a picture of Johnny's dash? If so, I've seen it and talked with him about it several times. I wanna go to Holland! :cool

way cool!!!

Ken,

I guess you feel comfortable with the mechanical guages versus electric. I have my guage list all together and im going all electric because I do not want to run the mechanical lines into the car. Not to mention the saftey issue which in my opinion is minima.

I got big plans for the car this winter in terms of body work!!!!

Johnny is a member here at the :CAC; his "handle" is "Johnny". Look him up - he's got a link in his profile. ;)

Will do. I checked "johnny" link but it did not have any info regarding the headlights so I sent him an e-mail. If he responds, I'll let everyone know what I find out

this is a quote from another post where someone asked about the lights

johnny said:
Because I had often problems with my lights, and I wanted to have better and modern lightpatterns, also driving with my lights on at daytime, I looked for a solution. So this setup is a "tryout", wich could be intergrated in my new hood. The lights are Italian lights of the Fiat Turbo Coupe. These are electrical adjustibel. They come in xenon too. I payed about 600 Euro a pair and the xenon are twice as much, and you need some extra electrical componends. Maby I buy those when my new hood is finisched.
