Has anyone experienced a "chirping" coming from the engine while cold and accelerating through low RPM ranges? Can not hear it at idle or any constant RPM. It only happens as the engine is revving up slowly. When I accelerate quickly it can't be heard, probably because my exhaust system is masking it. I mainly hear it in the mornings as I go through the gears and it happens at about 12 to 1800 RPM. It only last a split second and after the engine temp gets to 170 and above or the RPM is above 1800, I can not hear it at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jefe

I have a '97 A4 with 70,000 miles that has made some noises like you describe. In both cases, I had to have a belt tensioner and drive belt replaced. Perhaps that is your problem, too.
