What is the most common themostat upgrade in terms of lowering the temp for an LT-4? 160 or 185?

Whatever you decide, I would go with a Fail-Open T-stat

Stock LT4 thermostat is a 180 degree unit.

DRM sells 160 degree ones...this will give you ~170 on the digital readout on the highway...
