Thermostat

It's apparent after running my car the last couple of cool Atlanta nights that there is no thermostat in the car. After 10 - 15 minutes the car still is not up to 160 degrees. What temperature thermostat should go in this car here in the hot South. Aren't the emissions equipment an issue? As I recall, the smogged up cars needed to run a little hotter to be efficient.

Factory specs for 77 are 180 degree for L-82 and 195 degree for L-48. I too have heard that the smog systems run better with the higher temp. I'm sure others with smogged engines will chime in soon to give you their opinions.

I ran a 180 in my '79 L-48. Ran good with no problems.

1977 L48 will get the 180 degree. Stumbles until it gets above 100 degrees but then no problem.
