Had my '81 at a car show last weekend...had the windows down and the doors locked as always.

An hour or so later I came back to my car and this guy comes-up to me and we start talking about my '81....

So I reached-in and unlocked the door, opened the door and the horn starts blowing off and on.......Hey...the alarm works.....never knew
it did.....now....how do I shut it off????.....

Finally figured it out....put the door key in the lock and turn it...

But HEY....the alarm works......WOW......I should have tried to start it to see if the starter interrupt relay was working...but did not. Something to try though.

I have a story like that....The first time I drove my 'vette I reached in and opened the locked door from the inside and the car started clicking and wouldn't start. Found out later that the car alarm was going off but the horns were disconnected so I couldn't hear it and I didn't know what was going on...:L

Same story here, first meeting with the vette after 9 years. Locked it with remote, unlocked with remote, no problem. Tried to start and there it was, like snow in summer! As I have removed all the doorlocks no way to get it off. Has to find somebody with a wrench to disconnect the battery. Then I knew why the alarm was disconnected in the first place, disconnected it again the next day.
But good to hear yours is working properly!

Greetings Peter

Mine does not work, and I am not going to figure out why not :happyanim:

And congrats with your 2000th post Peter!

My horns do not sound as they are disconnected....but the starter interior works:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

factory alarm works on mine too. it also has the origional chapman alarm. i think the chapman was a dealer option.

Ours quit working a year or so ago and then I discovered that the horns didn't work either. Replaced the horn relay and they are both up and running again. If your alarm won't blow the horn check to see if your horns will blow with the horn button. Could be just a simple plug in realay.

As for the alarm being a pia sometimes, we had a broken door hinge check spring on the driver's side. When I would open the door it would close just enough to bump the door switch while I was getting my legs out and that would set off the alarm. Then people would look at me as if I was a moron while I crawled out and put the key into the outside lock to turn the thing off.:eyerole I fixed the hinge check spring too.
