Skip answering this thread above...keeping the LT4!!

Just bought an 03' AE Coupe...now I am happy! Glad I did not make the mistake of trading the LT4 as the 03', although a nice ride...is more 'Cadillac' like and does NOT give me the feeling of a 'sports car' like the C4 does!
Although it is...."Made In The USA!!!

I sold my LT4 last year and bought a 2000 Roadster. I had right at 50K on it and let her go for 16K. I would think with the low miles and color of your LT4 you could get a bit more.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, Have ya tried to push him to 5K out the door?

Carmine Red over Black, nice, is it a Z51?

Let us know what happens . . .

I dunno'
You're going from a last-year, highly desireable C4 to a first-year, dime-a-dozen C5.
What is it you hope to get with the '97 that you don't have with the '96?
(There ARE advantages with the C5, I just want to know if they are what you want...)

Thanks for your response Larry...

There is not any one specific reason for contemplating this trade other than getting into a newer design with a few more 'creature comforts'.

Ease of entry and exit, newer body design, new interior comfort, new style dash, lot more options than my current 96' ie. Bose CD, dual electric seats, dual air, ect....

What some C4'ers may feel is a mistake, others may feel is worthwhile...that is why I posted this thread...to get ideas on the 'pro/con' issue from other enthusiasts...you do make a good point though, last year 'collectable' C4 compared to first year 'dime-a-dozen' C5...I don't see this possible trade to a 97' as a real positive upgrade other than it only has 6000 miles and looks brand new... I have owned several vettes over the years and I am just fooling with this idea, fishing for comments....

Well, you seem to have all the points covered! The C5 is definitely more user-friendly.
Tough decision...let us know what happens.
(Truthfully, you can hardly go wrong either way)

I guess if it’s more comfort you want the C5 is the way to go I have driven many C5 and C4 vettes while looking to make my purchase. I decided on a LT4 CE. When I drove the C5s they just did not feel like a sports car to me they were actually too roomy some one on this forum described it as driving a fast Buick. As far as performance goes I do not think the early C5s offer any speed or acceleration increases over a LT4. The C5s do however handle a bit better. If it is a CD player you want save your $6000 dollars go to a good sound shop and put in a kickass stereo system. I don’t know what other options this C5 has that you think you would use?

I don’t know'

If you do not plan on keeping your C4 for another 10-15 years I don’t know this matters. But it is very true.

Everyone has posted some valuable reasons to do it or not to do it...I would personally keep the C4 for its future collectibilty potential and its pure fun to drive quotient. On the other hand if you want a C5 I would look for a newer model with a couple of more miles on it. Car sounds very nice but to lay 6k and your car I just think it may be to much. Just my 2 Cents.

I have a 97 the car is now 80k. No major problem. Only the usual oil pressure sensor and column lock. You can find an excellent condition 97 between 30k miles to 70k miles for $16 to $19k. You can get a 1999 at 60k miles for $22k. These car a great and mileage does not a big deal. I find the 97 listed quite high at $26k compare to what we see on the market.

You can also look at this thread. C4 versus C5.

I would keep the LT4. But that is just me. I never liked the square corners of the rear end of the C5, made it look like a kit car. Driven both as my neighbor has a 97 C5 auto stock, and I spank him every time we play, but the 6 speed is about a even match if both drivers know how to shift. Save the money and add a Super Charger. The C5 does ride a little smoother and has a little more room inside.

I believe there were less than 10,000 of the 97 C5 built.

They sold over 20,000 in 98.

That makes the 97 kinda rare. Especially with such low mileage.

That’s great news! Especially when there are only 357 Bright Aqua Metallic ’96s to go around. That is one low production run of that color.

Good Move!! You may want to regester your LT4 on www.grandsportregistry.com even though it is not a GS option. I did and they have a member that will let you purchase GM parts at cost+10% It is just for the LT4 owners.
