Well 1st of all I noticed 2 of my tires were put on the wrong way.So I got up this morning and pulled them off.Well it was the passenger front and drivers rear.I do not have any jack stands so I put the spare on the front and left the jack holding up the rear. The spare was flat when I got back so I tried to put air in it with no luck(it's dry rotted and would not take air) so that led me to use the factory jack(after putting the rear tire on off course) because it was sitting to low to get my hydraulic jack under.Started lifting the car and the thing cracked the plastic or whatever that material that is that runs along the bottom of the car:mad It does not look that bad but I really hope I never have to use that factory jack again I was not comfortable at all

You have to get it right smack dab between the 2 arrows and it has to be placed so that the pressure isn't placed on the outside lip.

Poor design, IMO, but workable in a pinch.

Usually there is a little contact with the plastic (and the scissors jack) but the plastic just bends in a bit.I use them once in a while, but prefer a floor jack.

Post a pic.

It'll probably not show much.

:)

How were they on wrong ? Each Spring I make it a point to pull out the spare, check it for proper pressure and clean the entire area. Pulled out the one on my wife's car last year and found it split wide open. This is the type of thing you discover one cold, snowey, dark night on a desolate road.

I've only had the car a little over 6mo's.I realized that 2 wheels were on the wrong side so I switched them but could not figure out why I was still having a rough ride till a buddy of mine said "hey man your back tire has the arrow's pointing the wrong way" and needless to say I now know why the previous owner switched the tires

Got out a little while ago and could not believe what a smooth ride I now have. It's liking driving a different car

Wannavette -
I'm confused; please clarify. You said you had to switch the front passenger and rear driver tires. But then you said both of the REARS were rotating in the wrong direction.
So, why DID the previous owner switch them?
Now that you have your tires rotating in the proper direction, are you aware that the rims are also directional? If the tires were not properly mounted on the rims, you still might have a problem. You need to be sure the rims are rotating in the proper direction.

Yeah the stupid tire place rotated my tires like that. If I would have not been able to look at my brothers car and say "wtf?? that isn't right" they might still be like that. For some reason two of them were going the wrong way...:(

Originally a couple months ago I pulled the wheels off to do some cleaning I noticed the wheel on the drivers rear was for the right side and the passenger front was for the left side.So I switched them but still was riding very bad!I had just came to the conclusion that Corvettes of this age were not supposed to feel like Cadillacs. It never occured to me the tires were on wrong
the rotation was going in the wrong direction.I guess the previous owner was to lazy to have the tires turned over and just switched them to get the tires going in the right direction even though the wheels were on the wrong side. Now it does preety much ride as smooth as a Cadillac

My red vette had the front tires on the rear and the rear on the front and the front rims rotating backwards, I noticed it after driveing it home from the dealer (about 300 miles), it handled ok, looked a bit odd. I bet it is more common than we would like to think.

Directional Rims/Tire Rotation

Hey Guys...guess I'll share my story, too. After buying my 85 last year, I went through a ritual of checking things out and referring to the manual. The car had 91, I believe, ZR-1 rims (sawblades) with new good year tires. I noticed that the arrows were going the wrong way and pulled them off to take a look see...come to find out that everything was screwed up! Wheels were on the wrong axle, etc. I have them on with the arrows going the right way but the wheels are on the wrong side. Doesn't seem to bother the driving and I guess I'll wait until I get some new tires before ensuring that they go on the correct way. Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter...don't forget to wave...

Not ME man, I drive it every day :lou And frankly, if I could get out of this commie hell hole 140 wouldn't be fast enough :puke

This whole thread reminds me of an experience last year with a local Chevrolet dealer. I had the vette in for some balancing issues and got it back with the front wheels reversed. I'm sure the average person didn't notice the couple of days they were on there, but I felt so stupid with the sawblades going different directions. :eyerole
