Well the 572 is now resting comfortably on it's stand, all the crap from Carlisle has been unpacked and put away, and September has finally arrived, so I am back to my gee-rage, for the Winter build.

Today I repaired, and modified the clutch and brake pedal assemble. The bracket was in need of repairs, and the pedals were badly pitted, so in order to keep the plating ( I am having the pedals chrome plated ) cost's down, I took a grinder, and the expansion wheel from " Eastwood's " and spent a few hours in putting a smooth, rounded off finish on the pedals.

I also modified the clutch rod bumper bracket, so that I could install an additional switch. This switch ( see close up figure 2 ) will be wired into the starting circuit, and will oblige the driver to depress the clutch pedal in order to be able to start the car. New vehicles now have this feature, and I figure it will be an additional safety factor. That's all for today, check back tomorrow for some more work.

I sure do like your ideas. :)

Bob, nothing I do is ever patented, so you are free to use , duplicate, copy, what ever will work for you. I am always pleased to see someone making use of anything I came up with, it's like the one about " the form of flattery thing.;)

Are you going to run the load of the load of solinode thru the switch or install relay. I am just trying to build some relay packs to work door lock solinodes

I don't plan on using a relay, just a jumper from the small wire to the switch. Not much current running through it. Wouldn't want to make a simple thing complicated for nothing.

Expect to see your ideas and designs in the new Soy Bean Oil Ink Corvette Color Catalogs coming out soon...From our favorite Corvette Vendors

Adding a switch to the clutch pedal is an excellent idea. I will be doing that to my 65 as I sometimes have Brain Farts....With almost 600 ft lbs of torque..I could see myself driving into the laundry room.....:L

Brain farts are normal, it goes with the age. However driving into the laundry room, is a no no. :nono

Great safety feature. I would like to do something like that to my 61. I'm constantly checking for neutral. I've been under the dash testing circuits lately and I'm always afraid I'm going to light up the starter motor by mistake. This could land me and the 61 in the swimming pool. That would be worse than the laundry room. ;LOL

Bob,

I would seriously consider using a relay. The amount of current that the starter solenoid draws will probably fry that switch in short order. Just my $.02.

Larry, If you want to find about the best price on Bosch style automotive relays, try this place. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=3

John, you are absolutely correct, and I will take definitely take your two cents. When I first responded to the question, I was looking at a the wrong wire in the harness. Ten hours, and gas fumes will do that to you.

Thank you

Thanks John
I used to use the radio shack ones as they always have them on the shelf, but lately the ones I have been getting from them even with a "light load" have been failing,Stephin wolf if you need a diagram I can make one its really not that much more work,You could just use the brake light + to fire the relay

Yes, diagrams are always good, and each day I learn something new, is a good day for me. However I don't understand your comment about the brake light thing ?. Would we be using it strictly for the need to power the relay.?

I am using a special brk/light switch, with double output, to operate the cruise control.

Bob,

The 12 volts feeding the brake switch is hot all the time, so it is a natural candidate for supplying the supply voltage to the relay.

Larry,

You will be tickled silly with the Bosch relays. Those cheap Radio Shack relays are rated at 5, maybe 10 amps, while the Bosch relays are available in both 30 and 40 amp ratings. I have never had a moments trouble from one. Plus they are as little as $0.92 or as much as a whopping $3 depending on whether you buy the true Bosch relays, or the import clones! I have never seen anyone else selling this quality a relay for this little, You can pay as much a $15 each for Bosch relays in the local market!

This discussion suggests to me that a thread (including examples) on the logic behind, and the various uses of, relays in our cars would be a good thing.

I know that I'd benefit from a thread like that. Anyone want to start a thread?
