7T2 LT1

Guest
Considering an update to breakerless ignition to my stock 72 LT-1,..what are the results that you have experienced in changing out? From what I'm hearing, it sounds like obvious better performance and the hassle of tune-up points changeout/set-up. Any recommendations as to were to p/u a kit,...Summit or Jegs etc.? Thanks, Tom Save The Wave!!! :beer

7T2 LT1- I've been thinking about that myself. My TI amp is still there, but the TI distributor is long gone, and a regular tach-drive points dist. is in its place. I would probably go with the Pertronics guts and coil. Put that setup on my '69 Camaro two years ago, and haven't had any problems with it. I think I bought it through the"Original Parts Group" Chevelle catalogue. It cost about $100 then.

I am in the same boat; amp present and all else gone. The local speed shops only recommned MSD for a tach drive setup so that will be my choice.

Since the 72 LT-1 didn't have the TI set-up I may notice more of difference,..presently considering a Mallory set up from Summit that goes out the door for about $105 Tom :beer

Looks Like a Good Setup!

Tony,..thanks for the post, some good information here,...this setup from 'lectric limited looks to be about the best I've seen from the standpoint of ease of installation and ignition system protection features,..do you have one of these presently installed and if so how's it working for you? Thanks, Tom Save The Wave!!! :beer

Haven't tried it, waiting for somebody else to try it first :)

I installed the full MSD setup, box, coil and distributor. I hid the box under the fender. Works great, the engine pulls past 7500rpm without a stumble. Wit headers on it dynoed at 285net HP.

On my stock Olds 1970 442, I installed Pertronix unit in the stock distributor with similarly good results. I wanted to look stock.

7500 RPM?!

Is that safe? Is your LT-1 stock except for your MSD & headers?

I put one in my 1969 Camaro it was a Petronix Ignitor it fits inside your stock distrbutor and gives it that original look with a modern
technology inside i still use my stock cap and wires works great

7500 RPM isnt safe, thats why I put in a 7000 rpm rev limiter. The cat is stock except for the MSD and headers.
