Thoughts on installing a LT-5 into a non-ZR1...

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if installing a LT-5 engine into a 90 coupe would be something to consider.

I have read folks that have done a LS1 swap. Why not a LT-5? I have seen a few on ebay for sale and I was wondering if anyone had done it.

Just wondering if anyone had done it or know of anyone that did it. Also, wondering what your thoughts were also on this.

Itd be cheaper to buy a ZR1, the LT5 engine itself might end up costing you 7-10K.

Plus all the very unique parts for the ZR1, costs pile up quick.
 
I had the chance to pick up a low mileage LT-5 when I started my engine build this time, but it looked like it'd be a nightmare and not worth it in the long run.
 
Well you would need:

the LT5 obviously
the LT5 specific ZF6
ECM and Harness
Also you will need a new CCM to eliminiate the SYS light

then from a ZR1 you will need
the Brake booster
Heater box
and I think the engine cradle

As said, it would be cheaper to sell and then buy a ZR1

Don't forget the ZR1 has 2 fuel pumps, also the secondaries inside the manifold are vacuum operated.. and there is a vacuum pump that goes along with that.. it would be more of a headache then anything.. probably easier and cheaper to build the heck out of your stock motor and achieve more hp/tq then a stock LT5
