I was told that there is a throttle limiter or governer on a 93 LT1. Is this true? I get conflicting stories on this. I once did 140 and, had lots more to go and, didn't notice any restriction on the speed. Just ran out of room to run. Top speed 170, I've been told this by a vette owner a while back....myth or is it true? Just curious.

its the tires...

If it applies to vettes too then this is true-

The 4th gen F-bodies had a limiter that was tied to the factory optioned tires. If you had all seasons- it was 110mph. The GSC cars had either no fuel cut out or it was set at 150mph. I have heard both.

There is a fuel cutoff at around 5850 RPM. This is designed to save the engine in case of a missed shift for a manual or if you would lock an A4 in a lower gear. I have hit 160 in my 92 and the tach showed about 5700 RPM. Leaving it in 3rd (I have an A4) I can easily hit 135 at 5700 RPM long before the cut off engages.

The LTt-1 powered Vettes were pretty much done just above 160 to 165 depending on the rear axle ratio. The LT-4 was good to past 165 and probably close to 170. L89 (pre 91) cars were good for around 150-155.
I had heard that F-bodies were limited to around 150 or so top speed. The A4 F-body tranny was supposed to have a governor. That tranny will bolt into a Vette but the governor has to be swapped out for the Vette version so it will go faster.
