I just bought this from Corvette Central and before installation I had a couple of questions:

1) Has anyone used this product (or similar) and if so what are the approximate gains, noticeable?

2) Installation calls to remove the Air Cleaner, are there negative side effects?

3) Can this be used in conjunction with the Hypertech Powerstat?

4) Is the Hypertech Performance Chip a better option than this product

Thanks again all,

Kevin

i saw these too, but i think jeg's was about $15 less in cost. there was thread about the chips and from what i read not worth the money? your first to ask about this i think?? but would your 84 use this or did you change her to TPI?

If it is the same one I am thinking about, it said not to use if you had any aftermarket chips. I was thinking of getting one till I read that. I think they are for 82's, and up since it was the Crossfire.

The catalog says do not use with after market chip.

But I do on my '84. With ADS chip.
Seems Ok!
:)

Want the same effect as the throttle performance switch for free?

Mash the peddle to the floor!

It might increase throttle response but there is NO power gain. All it does is make the computer think the throttle is wide open at 3/4 open. So for the same effect, just mash the go peddle to the floor faster.

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

Zum Zum thanks for the info!! man there are so many things in all the eckler's, corvette central, etc etc that don't seem to do what they say, but leave your pocket lighter!!!

Someone did a study of all those "performance enhancing" doo dads in the catalogs and determined that we could, if they were all true, increase our power by over 300 HP for less than the cost of a tank of gas.

That so-called Throttle Performance Switch has got to be the biggest ripoff yet. Don't use it. WOT is at WOT...not at 3/4 WOT.

From what I understand of the hypertech chips, all they do is make your cooling fan(s) come on sooner and actually don't do anything to make power.
You really don't need any type of aftermarket chip unless you've done some major type of performance mods (cam, heads, headers, etc) and then you should get a customed programed chip to suit your particular needs. There is no one chip fits all perfromance booster. Just my .02

the ones i was looking at in eckler's and jeg's both said not to use with after market chip. but i did seem to think a BS product! just surprised on how many BS products are out there!! buyer beware!!

It has as much effectiveness as the throttle body airfoil. Which is another piece to avoid in the 85 and later cars.

Without knocking the 84 and the Cross-fire, it's a bit more difficult to add HP in this motor but it can be done. The engine will respond to usual things like cams, head work, headers, and a good cat-back exhaust system, The intake is a bottleneck but it can be worked on to flow more air. You may have to search through the threads to find info on how to bring this motor to life but it is doable with impressive power gains.

Most of the catalog chips do little more than change when the fans turn on, so it would be a good idea to find companies that will burn a custom chip to match the mods you wind up doing.
