my pedal sticks every once and a while. I was told that in 85 there was a recall for the throttle cable but dealer said car too old. Someone also told me it could be that the throttle body is dirty. If so, whats the best way to clean it. If I take the throttle body off, will i need new gaskets and reset TPS sensor?

P.S. this forum is great!!! Without this I'd probably STILL be getting riped off by those shady mechanics. Thanx for the help everyone. :upthumbs

Nice 85. I don't think that the pedal sticking would be attributed to a dirty throttle body. I would check cable travel and attachment, also pedal assembly itself. Cleaning the throttle body is rather easy and does make quite a difference, particularly in regards to idle. There is no need to replace gaskets unless existing ones are shot. You will need to do a IAC reset, idle and TPS adjustment. Remember to remove and CAREFULLY clean the IAC when you have the throttle body removed. Pick up a GM service manual for the specific year if you don't have one already. Worth their weight in Gold.

I use my gm shop manual so much that it is almost destroyed. how would i know if the gaskets are shot, they would just look horrible? thanx

Due to the fact this is a relatively clean area if the gasket is not torn you should be good to go.

sticking throttle

Thanks to all the reviews on this problem.
I had a sticking throttle that caused a nasty jack rabbit leap at the worst times.

A quick search of the forum gave me a lot of solutions. For me, I removed and cleaned, cleaned, cleaned the throttle body.
The cause of the sticking was the crud that hardened between the plates and the body. at idle when the plates are closed they closed the opened completely. I would guess I was fighting engine suction.
Now I need to adjust the idle. But she is sweet.

Thanks again

Hey Bobmo, I seem to be having the same problem. What did you use to clean the throttle body?

Any off the shelf throttle body cleaner will do the trick.
