I'm looking at the tie rod end and there is a funny little bit that screws into the bottom of the ball joint. I have no idea what it is for, how tight it should be, etc. Can someone help out?

If I had to guess I'd say it was for injecting grease into the joint...

It's the bit on the bottom right of this pic, beside the cotter pin.

Thanks.

Take a quarter inch drive socket that fits and screw that "zerk" fitting into the top of the tie rod end (flip over top item in your pic)....when you have it installed, grease it till it starts to come out from under the rubber boot.

Don't torque it too tight, it should run down and bottom out on the tie rod end.
