This might sound a little silly to ask this question...O.K, it might sound darn right stupid, but, I'm trying on average to find out what seem's to be the optimal timing for the '91 L-98 or cars with the aluminum heads.
I can get out to the track very much at all so I cant really tune there, so I figured that If I were to ask enough members about what seems to work best for them, I would have some numbers to play with when I'm bored and have nothing beter to do thatn fart around with my car.
I've done all the free mods that I'm sure you to have done, I have a 3.07 rear end, 1.62 rollers, and done the plenum/ intake porting thing, gutted cat's with no mufflers, and I have an "Ed Wright" raceing chip installed also.
I think that just about does it for the info of the car.
Talk to all of you later.
Aloha.

I run 8*, you could run 10* with premium gas and shouldnt run into any problems.

There is a fun accurate, and inexpensive way to find your answer.

Go to www.actron.com and order the CP9110 with the 84-95 GM cartridge.

This is a great tool that will allow you to scan codes, clear codes, view engine management data, etc.

You can set it on the view data mode, and scroll down to the timing section. It has a view data for the timing retard. This will show you how much timing the computer takes out based upon signals from the knock sensor.

Here is what you do. Take the car down the road with a passenger and stomp the throttle while having them watch the scanner. When you "ping" the timing will jump back. Pull over, raise the hood, adjust the timing, go out, thrash it again. Keep doing it until you get minimal timing retard from the scanner. This is the optimum advanced timing you can run on that engine with that fuel.

Sounds good to me my friend!
Mahalo for the in put to both of you who replied.

Nothing much, my family is all a sleep now and it's about 1:17 a.m in the morning Hawaii time.
