ok...i let it idle and warm up real good..the vac. advance is plugged with a golf tee...and it is ideling at about 700 rpms...i dont have the tach hooked up due to the angle the connection is at , but itsidling fairly normal....
i have the vac. advance as far to the firewall as i can turn it...the timing mark is about 1" above or towards 12 oclock...so im thinking i have it off a tooth...but when i bring the #1 cylinder to top dead center the rotor is pointing right at the #1 cylinder...so now im not sure if that is the case as far as a tooth off...im almost sure i put it in the way i took it out...the rotor position that is...however could i be off if the vac. advance was in the wrong spot...if i was off on that i wasnt off by much...there isnt alot of room for error in the area of that...im in no hurry to run with it this way so im looking for advise and opinions....im hoping this to be the last time i remove the distrubitor!...
ps...when it was out i didnt crank the thing over so everything was in the same position when i put it back in...thanks all...chas:w

V DUDE, you got it in a tooth off!!!!!! With the timing mark that far advanced, and the dist. cranked all the way back as far as it will go, its off by 1 tooth. Pull the cap, pull the dist.up just far enough to rotate the rotor CLOCKWISE, one tooth. After you have moved it one tooth, you may have to bump the engine over to get the dist to drop into the oilpump This should give you enough ajustment to get the vac. adv. off the firewall!!!! Good Luck,:L ;) Paul

Thanks....

I was hoping for this advise:upthumbs...I got to lifting it out and when i rotated it...the thing wouldnt drop...i was gonna have my wife...assistant mechanic in training....bump it till it fell in , but i wanted to reassure myself that this is where i was really at...thanks bud.
