My timing was on 4BTC, when i got the car, i just got around to checking it set it on 6 like it says to, the reson i wanted to check it was after it sits for say 10 mins. when i go to start it again, it lags, a little , like one does when the timing is off, i guess lag is the word for it, it starts fine when cold, i have played with it set it @ diff. sittings still does it, i dont think its a bad spot in the starter, as it would do it when it was cold if is was in the bad spot, it seems to run fine, is there a better sitting then 6 BTC ? it has 27,900 miles on her, so i dont think it would be any wore out parts, what do you all think ? leave it @ 6 BTC or change it , looks like i will never get this lag out its no big deal, i did notice it does it worse @ 6 then 4 BTC , it has all new tune up parts all GM parts , i put all GM stock parts back in it.

I don't know about the engine in your car but my L48 loves advance - the more the better. She can't get enough!

Seriously, the manual calls for 8 BTDC. I just adjusted it from 15 to 12 and it's not running so smoothly now. (Of course I feed her premium gas to avoid any detonation, but she's worth it.) I'll probably go back to 15 when I have some spare time.

Of course, it's possible I have a carburation problem (it's a Holley 4150). Any thoughts on this anyone?

There a few previous posts related to this problem I think. Some said that the starter gets hot because of it's location. Mine did the same thing, but the problem was reduced greatly when I tightened up the battery cables.

By "lag" do you mean its slow starting or it "hesitates" under acceleration? if its slow starting check your ground and even add a ground strap to the bellhousing by the starter. I use a ford solenoid on the firewall and hot-wire the origional. the same set-up is sold by most speed shops as a "hot start kit". simple effective and gives you another source for +12 volts

ten minutes running should not heat up strter and solenoid enough to cause it to slow down crancking unless you have exhaust leak in immediate area. I agree with additional ground and cleaning of electrical cables. Have you had your battery load tested? Auto Zone does that for free right in the vehicle.
