Tinting the top?

On my removable top it is already slightly tinted or "smoked" and keeps a good amount of the sun off my scalp. But here in Florida it is getting pretty hot and the sun is starting to scorch my bald little head. Have any of you tinted the top even darker? Is this possible? And do you think it would even help?
thanks ;)

It would probably help with good tint; 3M makes a tint with 76% heat blockage, if you used that, it would help alot. The only question is, will it work on that material? maybe check 3M's site out for more info.

I have the 3M on my vette, and it helps a ton, especially here in FL!

I asked my Tint guy the same ???? this week he said it is near imposible to tint the roof as it curves both ways and he told me it would look like crap .I am just thinking of painting the inside with Fusion paint for plastic it will look just like tint on the out side but stop the sun 100% on the inside ..

It will probably still be hot as heck though since the paint is designed to stop the sun, but not necessarily heat.

If you are willing to go to these extremes, why not go to a fabric store and get some headliner material and cover it with that. I am sure you can do it in a way that is removable for the future if you want to go back.

Another option is to buy a painted top; I use my painted top most of the time, mostly because of the heat. It is also much more quiet because the headliner absorbs some of the sound.

Static cling

HI... Roxi
I went to Pep boys, they have a static film that will do the job, about $ 12. Wal mart has it also, Pep boys has more selection.
The large size will fit the top. You can buy different degrees/shades. I bought
the LIMO dark. THE only problem I see is, Some where in one of the Catalogs I have from Ecklers as example, it says to apply only to glass tops.
The great thing is being static you can remove it now & then to give the top a break. I have been looking into a "RAINCOAT" that fits the top, doesn't let SUN in and you can remove anythime and put top back on. $$$$ 325.
NOW the real answer is to buy a ball cap.

I used a static cling sun blocker on my C5 top for a couple of years without difficulty. It made quite a lot of difference on the hot days, and can be removed in cooler months.

I bought the static sunshade w/ holes from Mid America and it really helps alot.

You can get pop in headliners from Ecklers for about 29.00. They are plastic covered with headliner material. They have tabs that fit between the top & the frame. They are a little hard to get in, but once in place, they work great & you can easily take them out when it cools off.:cool

so the static cling and headliners are my choices? Interesting. Those two ideas never crossed my mind. I'll have to check them out and give it a shot. i previously checked out a painted top but the local vette shop wanted $450.

Thanks everyone for al your input. now I have to find a weekend to give up yet again for roxanne to fix her top!:L
