Tire pressure sensors

Probably not.
If you test ONE outside the wheel it MAY not affect the mounted ones since they are shut off. During the test the computer does not "see" the mounted ones and when you drive the car it will see the original working/mounted ones....... I think.

I read in the service manual that once you start the reprogramming process that if you stop that the read out will only be for the modules that you have programmed. I assume(d) that is because of the of the way that software works in the receiver. I could be wrong but my guess is the program erases all the previous id's for the old modules but it could be the program sets a bit that just says the data is not valid, so you could be correct and you might read the old modules. Side bar: what you are doing with the magnet is turning on the switch in the module so it will transmit its identification (id) number which is probably some hexidecimal number that is unique to the module. The receiver and the procedure is set up so that the first slot in memory is the left front wheel so the program dumps this id isn the left front memory slot. As you proceed around the vett you get the other three id's and if you do it in the right order, voila! you got it. The pressure is the second piece of data that the module sends. The whole thing works on centrifucal (sp) force and turns on when the wheel gets up to 15 mph (or so) and sends it out every minute (or so) to save the battery.
That is my understanding. :)

OK, I think you are missing what I'm saying. All 4 sensors are attached to the wheels and are mounted on the car right now. I have one (left front) that isn't reading. That is the one I wanted to try and re-program. The rest are working just fine. I just don't want to re-program all of them unless I absolutely have to, and it looks now like I'm gonna have to do them all.

Thanks guys!

Dave

Sorry, I did not understand, since the thread was about testing before install I just assumed that was the question. I think if you read my earlier post on this thread it is the procedure as defined by GM and it would seem to indicate that once you start you will have to do all four. Try it and see, the worse case is you do the first one and then turn off the ignition, and it works and you have only one reading, the left front and xxx on the other three. Then you would have to do all four. Still confusing??? sorry
I guess the other question is why do you think it is a programming problem? Did you install it? The battery has an 8 year life average so is it possible the battery is dead?

My guess would be that the battery might be dead. I just bought the car a couple of months ago. I'll try to program the one sensor and see what happens.

Thanks for the help gang!

Dave
