Hey y'all!!!
Quick question.
Can I mount 275/40/17 tires on my front wheels currently wearing 285/40/17s?
I need tires, plus I'm tired of the big 'uns up front.
Thanks all.

275/40/17 should be the stock size for a 17x9.5 rim. Mine had 'em all around.

'93's came with 255/45/17 on the front and 285/49/17 on the rear. The rear whhel are wider.

Should work fine.

Thanks to all. And 6 Shooter, that tire conversion chart is quite the handy little deal. "Preciate ya! :w

Just because 285's are all ready mounted there does not make it okay.

Check the wheel size/width - should be on the back of the wheel on one of the spokes, then check the specifications for your particular brand of tires (at www.tirerack.com or the company's website) and see if your tire's recommended rim width matches what you have.

Most tire companies recommend a minimum rim width for 275/40/17 tires. If you have 8.5 wheels, they will still fit - it's just not recommended and would void any warranty you might have.

It might be a good idea to check all four wheels on your 93 and see just what you have there. Many 93-96 Vettes have had the 8.5 and 9.5 wheels mixed up with odd tires on them by previous owners and tire changers.

If you car is a ZO7 car, then it should have 4 9.5 wheels and it should have had 275's all around.

I agree

:)

Better to do a thorough evaluation of wheels & tires if there is any question.

I run 295's on the FRONT for racing, but that's on a 9.5 FRONT rim.

315 on the back on an 11 inch rim.

I'm actually very surprised you have the bigger wheels up front. not many had that in 1993.

It was a matter of convenience thanks to a thief!!!! Unfortunately, the original 17" x 8.5" sawblades with the 255/45ZR-17s were STOLEN!!! The current 17" x 9.5" sawblades with 285/40ZR-17s upfront were to be replacements for--whenever.

After the theft, I put the big'uns up front too. Now that it's time for tires all around, I'm changing to the smaller 275/40ZR-17s up front.

My original question was asked because a local tire dealer tried his best to talk me into a new wheel and tire package. So sorry if there was some confusion--I should've stated at the beginning that the front wheels are 17 x 9.5s.

Just put 285 Kumho ASXs front and back after getting another pair of rear wheels--stock A mold 17x9.5s for the front. Very happy. Much improved handling and ride.
