I had the sidewall blow out on my 89 conv yesterday and was wondering, should I match the manufacturer for the other side. The front tires are Dunlop SP Sport 8000 275/40ZR17 and the rear are Fuzion. The left front tire blew. I also need to get a new spare, it was so bad I just put the car on a rollback and had it brought home. $$$$$ Thanks for your help.

Yes.

I had several sets of SP 8Ks on various (non Corvette) cars in the 90s. Good tires though sensitive to grooved road surfaces. However theres a number of good tire choices and if possible recommend a full set of matched tires.

I just got my second set of Kumho's all season this time, I've been very happy with Kumho. They give good mileage, good traction and they make audible sounds as I approach the speed when I'm about to lose traction in high speed turns - thus likely saving my life. Tire Rack has them for $115+ each.

Thanks for the input. I found a new pair of Fuzions to match the rear so I think I'll just buy them. Replacing the spare was a little more difficult, found a used one at Corvette Generation for almost as much as a regular tire.

Just installed four Sumitomo HTR Zs. Ordered from the Tire Rack. $88 a tire, all fresh with a date code of 1708. Also had a 4 wheel alignment. What a difference vs. the 11 year old BF Goodrichs. Make sure your installer doesn't use any of the recalled valve stems. Check the web, but I think they say "Dill ACP" on them.
