I need to replace my rear tires (Michelins) in the near future, and I have a couple of questions regarding size and tire brands. I have the stock wheels on a 2000 Vert and presently have the stock tire size, but would like to move up to a little wider footprint, if possible. What size/s from the stock configuration can I go with to get the wider tread without replacing rims, etc.? Also, has anyone had any experience with either Toyo or Yokohama (sp.) tires. I think my wife is getting into accelerating contests at the turnpike toll booth, and I may need to cut out her beer money to contribute to the rear tire fund. That said, I like the Michelins;however, the runflats are fairly expensive when they only last about 15 to 20 thousand miles. I think I will go with a non-runflat on the rear since the front tires are barely half worn. Any advice and comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

tire sizes

You can go to tire rack and their web site will tell you what size tire fits on what wheel. As I remember (I too have the stock size wheels) you can go up a size or two, but going to the ZO6 size rear tires was a bit much for the stock C5 wheels to handle ---they said they would wear in the middle pretty quickly.
I take it your tires are the runflat Michelins? Have you taken a look at the Michelin Pilot A/S (non runflats)? That's what I put on mine all around and I love them for their being quiet, and they have a treadwear rating of, I think 400!..............

You can go to a 285 rear, 255 front. If you go to 295,265 ( Z06 sizes) It will go but it's a little too big to fit on the wheel properly as previosly stated. I changed to Z06 size wheels and tires and felt a huge difference in traction. That's the move, and very easy to aquire Z wheels or the equivalent size wheels.

Thanks for the information, Glenn W and Pac Man. I am interested in moving up to a size that won't compromise the wheel size, and from what you are saying, the ZO6 size is just too big. I will probably stay with the Michelins but will go the non-runflat route. They are great tires, but I thought I would try another brand if somewhat less expensive. I will take the suggestion to visit Tire Rack and get their recommendations. Thanks again for the help. Pac Man, you will soon have to put the Vette up for the winter (unless you drive it year round.) I used to live in Maine and didn't look forward to going "Vetless" through the winter months. Stay warm!
