I have a 2001 Z06. As I look to replace the tires, I would love to find some ultra high performance, all season tires. Michelin’s new Pilot APs have gotten terrific reviews, outperforming many “dry” tires on dry roads. Upon reviewing availability of those, the closest sizes I find are 275/40-17s for the front (OEM size is 265/40-17), and 285/35-18s for the rear (OEM size 295/35-18). I recognize that the actual sizes are somewhat flexible based on inflation and load, but taking the theoretical numbers, the fronts would be .4 in wider, and .3 in greater in diameter yielding a difference in rotational speed of less than one mile per hour at 60 mph (i.e. the car would actually be going 60.75 MPH while the speedo indicates 60). For the rears, the differences come out as .4 in narrower and .3 in smaller in diameter yielding a difference in rotational speed of minus .63 MPH (i.e. car would be going 59.37 MPH while indicating 60). It doesn’t seem that these differences are too significant, but I would like some confirmation that I’m not going to run into interference problems in the front wheel well, and that the overall height difference (raising the front end by half the diameter difference and lowering the rear by the same amount) will not cause any issues. Its hard for me to imagine that three tenths of an inch overall change in the “angle of attack” would have any measurable difference for general road use, but I also know that the designers make their selections of OEM equipment and things such as ride height with VDOT standards, roadability, and performance considerations in mind. Bottom line – is this a good idea or should I stay with the Goodyears.
