I have a 1966 big block roadster in need of new tires. Any suggestions? Will 215/70/15's fit?

Sure will. I had them on mine before changing to the 225/50/17's they will rub a little in the front on the frame and in the rear they rub just enough on the e-brake bracket. They do not rub enough to be concern.. Go get em.. I wouldn't get the Regatta II's myself if you've looked at them.. The side wall is absolutely horrible. Dave..

ive go a 67 big block coupe and i have 225/70/15 bf good rich t/a's on dc rally wheels-they dont rub and have a good footprint

FWIW, I have 215-65R15s on my 57 with over 14000 fun miles in 13 months!

Perhaps I can leverage all this tire knowledge to know what to put on my 62 "Vette. The "original" tires were 670/15 bias ply. Does anyone know where I can find a conversion table to understand the equivilent size in radials? The car has 225/70R15 now and I feel they are too tall for the car. Very close to the front fender when I turn.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hal.

The generally accepted equivalent radial size vs. the 6.70-15 is 205/75-15; I had Coker 205/75-15 radial wide whites on my '57, and they looked fine and didn't rub anywhere.

Thanks, John. That's the root of the info that I need.

Hal,

Click on the Tech Center tab at the top of the page and then go to the toolbox. There are several tire size calculators and tire selectors in there that are also a big help in picking tires. Especially if you want to look at non-stock sizes and compare measurements.

Dave,
What wheels are you running. What is the backspacing.

Bill,
Same question.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, thanks for the hint.

I looked there, but still didn't find a conversion table from "old code" to "new". I looked at all the tire stuff in there and they all "assume" you know what [new] size you want, or that your "vette is no older than 81. :eek

If I missed it, please let me know.

Thanks again.

Hal

I occasionally get a catalog from Coker and they show origional tires and replacement radial sizes. Not Sure what their web address is. Take a look in the Portal and see if they are listed.

I posted a question about this a while back and got a bunch of answers that might be useful - here's the thread:

Also, when you narrow down the list of sizes you're considering, try this tire size calculator for comparisons - it's the best one I've found:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Let us know what you get!

Andy

ps. Rob if you see this message, you may want to add the above tire calculator to your list in the tools section.

Tom, When I had the 215/70/15's on there it was I believe a 15x7 rally. Now I have 225/50/17's on TTII's 17X7 w/4" of bs. Dave...

Thanks Dave. I have seen TT IIs on several cars in 17" but didn't know the width or backspacing. This will help in the future. :D

Tom

Tom,

My 57 has 1954 Buick Skylark Kelsey-Hayes 6" wide wires.

They've been on the car for a looong time...

(Dec. 1963)

They are a 5" bolt pattern so everything's been redrilled - not adapted. I don't know the offset but they're stock wheels.
