Went to get a safety check on the vet and all it needs for it is tires.

What are some recommendations for a good set, on a budget?

BF Goodrich KDWS. Good ride, low bucks

;stupid

I just bought mine from BJ's and they are great !
Got to BFG's web site and look at their comparison chart.
The KDWS have awesome tread wear rating (400) and the performance is nearly the same as the KDW.
I got mine for $140 !!

I'm been wanting someone to try the new GoodYear F1 D3 - interested?

TireRack is showing them on their web site. Can't remember the price right now but it a lot more than $140. Then again, Hib and Corvette Fever rave about them.

how do you drive the car? race at all? If you don't race, and just want a low cost tire to keep you on the road, Kumho are the best bang for the buck IMHO. I have a pair on the front of my 'Vette... two more will be coming soon for the rear.

thanks for all the input, i'll look into the Kumho's and the KDWS.
No i dont race, and these will be strictly for the streets in the spring, summer and fall months.

I am not sure if everyone knows this or not, but the treadwear rating is only good to cross check between different tires within the same manufacturer.

----It should not be used to compare tires from different manufacturers.----

No, I di not know that... I thought it was based on a government standard.

Do you know where we can confirm this?

Thanks!

From Discounttiredirect.com

"Treadwear
The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear of a tire when tested carefully under controlled conditions. For example, a tire graded 400 should have its useful tread last twice as long as a tire graded 200. Another tire manufacturer, however, may grade a comparable design 300, so a grade of 150 would last half as long under their grading scheme. The lesson learned is to not use one manufacturer's grade versus the other, but instead to compare tire grades within a given brand. Actual treadwear performance can vary tremendously according to the tire's real-world use: variations in driving habits, service practices (most importantly air pressure maintenance) and road conditions and climate affect tire life."

hope that helps:) , if anyone else has any more info on it, please post... I know I have read about the cross manufacturer thing at a few places, but who knows where anymore... :confused

On a budget, you cant beat Kumhos.

I run ecsta supra 712s.

That's what I've read as well!

I have the SZ50's on mine. I was going to go with Kumho's, but waited two more weeks to save up the cash and went with the Firestones.

So, does this mean that my R1's with a treadwear rating of 0 (zero) will not last out of the driveway? :confused :D

I think he's just using that as an example. To the best of my memory, the stickers that came on my Firestones were coded with letters. I can't remember how they did it... Someone help!

Has anyone run the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 on low speed autocross runs (Solo II)? Tire spin from a stand still? Lateral acceleration? Do they give good feeback when they are going to break loose?

I'm curious how they do when pushed around ;)
