Anyone have any idea how wide you can go with tires on an 86 before they rub the fenderwells or cause other problems.

You could put any size you'd like on your car, as long as the offset/backspacing was correct, and you either added flares or lived with tires sticking out past the fenders, but I think you want a serious answer to your question, that is, something you can fit in there without adding flares or rubbing on the inner fenderwells or tie rods. ;)

You can safely get away with anything up to a 2.75/2.85 on a 9-1/2 inch rim, anything wider and you should use a 10 or 11 inch rim, then you will run into extending the tires/rims past the fenders. Even at that, you have to be careful with the offset and your braking package, whatever that may be.

Hope this helps some, and that others may now respond as well. :CAC

It is possible, with a 285 on a 9.5" rim, that they may rub at lock on the front.
Ive seen that before, my 275s clear at lock.

Rear, depends on offset, but ive seen guys with 335s on 11" rims in back. Cant remember seeing one bigger, and still be a street tire.
