just wodered if anyone has tried different tires . I have 1500 miles on my comm.ed. and can't believe the damage to the rocker panel area already. The rear brake air inlets look like they have been sandblasted. The car has not seen gravel. The tread section of the F-1 supercars always seem to have numerous bits of pebbles and debris stuck in them. U think GM made a loisy chioce of tire for the car, considering the way the fenders roll in to the wheel well area. I have looked at others running the run flats and found the paint to be in excelent condition in the same areas. I am using F-1 GSD-3's on my ZR-1 and they pick up very little. Seems to me that would be a much better tire for the Z06 if you want your paot to last. ........... Any comments?

When GM made its design choices with the Z06, it decided to market the car to extreme motorsports enthusaists and, thus, passed on some compromises sometimes made otherwise. One of these no compromise situations was the tires. GM figured Z06ers would rather have the best possible lateral grip and be willing to accept a little paint chips. The Goodyear F1 Supercar has a sticky tread compound and that's why stuff sticks to it. The F1 SC is also incrementally better for dry traction than is the F1 GS-D3 and that's why the D3s don't have as much gravel, etc stuck to them.

I've run both GS-D3s and Supercars on my ZR-1 and I find that the Supercars do stick just a tiny bit better.

I have the supercar tires on my Z. I have the same problem with the rocker panel, but I would not consider changing tires, although Michelin has a tire that may be as good or alittle better, but I think the solution is to get some protection. The problem with protection I've seen is only available for the C5, but not for the ZO6. The two options I've seen are the clear plastic static clinging sheets you can put over the body panel to protect it, or the body molded mud flap. Like I said, I've seen them for the C5, but not the ZO6. They have indicated that they will not fit the Z. ?? Wonder why they just don't make one for the Z? As you know, the rear tire does overhang the rear wheelwell rear. The front tire sandblasts the front wheelwell rear, down the rocker. They do make covers for the sideview mirrors though, as they get sandblasted as well. I don't plan on taking the car in to get repaired and repainted. It will just happen again. So when something comes out in terms of protection for the Z that is also attractive, I would then take it in to get fixed, then install the protection. Until then, I'm just driving her around.
