With the prices of new C5's dropping like crazy, I'd be crazy not to at least consider selling the old Vette and getting a new one.

The dilemma is I recently did a lot of work on the old Vette to make it faster and better sounding and, well, I've had it since it was new. I can't afford to just give it away either. I was sorta planning on driving it many more years.

Any idea what a 100k mile 92 coupe is worth with a fresh motor turning out 328HP at the rear wheels?

Guess I'm whining a bit! Oh well.

Tuna,

I would keep it. You're going to take a bath if you sell it. We all know what you've put into it and how fast it is. But when you start modding like you have; selling will only lose money.

I say keep it and enjoy it.

I agree with Edmond. The general consensus is that C4's are going to drop in value, if they haven't already, and if you've got a ton of $$ into it, you will never get it back...especially those with high mileage.:( Just keep it and enjoy it!

Edmond and Eliane are right, you will lose your shirt.( Money) When you modifiy one the value actually goes down instead of up. Kind of sucks!!! Keep it or if you just have to get a C-5 bite the bullet and take the loss.

Keep on cruising!!!

Yep, it's kind of weird how that works! :confused

Y'all are all being toooo rational and logical. :eyerole

That's part of my problem - it's more 'want' and 'need'! ;)

The prices are so good right now that I just wish I could buy another Vette and have 3!!! But I can't. :cry

Logic will rule in the end and I'll still be driving my old Tuna Sport years from now.

Take it easy,

Talking to a friend of mine "vette Salesman", Hold on to it , the Value will go UP.
Keep it running and in good shape, and it becomes an investment ++$.

Tell that to the ZR1 guys that are waiting for them to be worth 100K:) No offense to ZR1's I LOVE them, but as an investment, not.

I'd see what you could get for the Tuna wagon, maybe the "right" buyer will want the mods & you can get "some" of the money back:) Front page auto trader a couple of times. List the mods & explain that they are all quality & work together.

Tuna,

You can always list what you've done on an ad on the forum here and get an idea. If you don't like what you could potentially get, you don't have to sell. We could look at what you've done and give you honest opinions what we're willing to pay.

Even if you take a look at some of the really rare and desirable 'vettes this isn't really true.

Let's take a '67 convertible for example... you would have paid $5,000 with some options on it. Figuring it would probably be worth, in pristine condition, $75k today, that is like getting roughly 7% interest if you just put the $5k in the bank... BUT, this does not include the $$$ it costs to store the car, $$$ for insurance, $$$ for maintenance, registration, etc., etc. Add all that up, factoring in inflation, and you are in the hole.

Don't get me wrong... C4's are some of the best cars for their money, as far as loss of money goes. Taking Tuna's '92 for example. If you bought this car today, say for $8k, it would probably won't go down in value much at all... bottoming out at $5k. even at $2k per year for maintenance it isn't that bad when you compare it to most new cars, where you lose 5-10k in the first year, followed by nice large chunks of $$ after that:(

With you being the original owner, it will help the price some. When I was looking for a vette last year, I would only consider vettes that were completely stock and from a mature owner. It is just that when you buy something that is modified no matter how well it was done or good of a mechanic did the work, the person buying the car does not know that.

Unfortunatly you will get back little to nothing for modifications you have made.

(Unless you find a private seller that wants that car real bad) High miles is a killer on resale. I went to a few dealers in my area, looking to trade in my 95 with 25,000 miles on it, The best offer I had was $14,000. I also went to avery large and popular Corvette dealer in Atlantic City said I would be lucky to get $12 grand.

Offers for private sales were better, but still taking too much of a bath.

I would rather push a Rustang than sell my Vette for those dirt prices.

What got me thinking on this it the first place is the price of new Vettes - 2004 C5's. This is a great time to buy a Vette for someone that doesn't already have one or someone that wants an additional Vette. Dealers are discounting new Vettes like they can't get rid of them fast enough. This is driving down prices across the board for all C5s and most C4s. Those of us that would like to upgrade Vettes are going to get killed in the trade-in or private sales market.

Maybe it is a big conspiracy by GM to get new people into the Corvette world while making it difficult for existing owners. ?

The Tuna Sport runs great and looks good - I guess I'll hang on to it awhile longer and get my money's worth out of it.

I am looking for that same reason... Even if I only get 13k for my CE, it would still be a good deal. If someone offered me $15k for my CE today, I would probably take the cash and buy an '04:eyerole

Even the tuner cars take big hits on resells; like the TPIS's and Lingengelters, etc...
