Has anyone seen or heard of the conversions done by Tom Oates Chevrolet in PA ? I realize that they are a certified Callaway dealer.
Looking for any difference in the work. I know they don't have all the logos and such, but what else is different ?? And I'm wonder the used market value difference of a car done at Callaway vs a certified dealer.

Thanks !!

offshore,

A certified dealer conversion is the same as a tuner conversion. Neither are Callaway Corvettes. Those cars do not bring the Callaway Certificate of Authenticity which comes with Callaway doing the mechanical installation to ensure it meets Callaway standards. That along with the badges is what makes it a Callaway Corvette.

The fact that they are a certified dealer means that they have a buying contract w/Callaway and get support and training. We have seen similar cases where a dealer (certified or not) might call it a Callaway Corvette since the SuperCharger is Callaway/Magnuson, but that is it.

An unknowing buyer will look at NADA and confuse it for a legitimate Callaway Corvette, but without the Certificate of Authenticity it is not.

Mechanically, in addition to the Supercharger it would also need to have:

• Upgraded fuel system with high flow injectors
• Callaway “Double-D” stainless steel exhaust system
• Callaway “Honker” Cold Air Inlet System

and cosmetically it would lack:

• Callaway body color injector covers
• Callaway C16 hood with contrasting power bulge and'Supercharged' insignias
• Callaway Floor Mats, VIN plaque, emblems and sill plates

while the SuperCharger itself would had a warranty I don't know about the:

• 3 year / 36,000 mile powertrain warranty

which I was under the impression that Callaway paid for should there be any damage to the powertrain resulting from the SuperCharger installation.

Guys, Correct me if I am wrong.

With a supercharger and hood, I agree with Luigi, it is a tuner car at best.

Not to be confused with the Callaway Corvette, I am actually surprised that a Callaway dealer would make their own variant. While I am sure their profit margin has the potential to be greater on their end for their own handiwork, in the end, the retained value would be difficult to pin down and the NADA book is worthless to figure that one out...

Just my 2c.

:confused It certainly seems like the one's from Tom Oates are legitimate, guess I misread Luigi's post

Mark, it sounded to me like the car(s) that original poster was talking about, are the ones the dealership does themselves.

I have seen where they take a Callaway MagnaCharger kit and put it, and the early hood on a Corvette, and call it something close to a Callaway SuperCharged Corvette. Not quite, but closely named ;squint:

They are a Callaway dealer and DO sell Callaway SC Corvettes, but have also listed and possibly sold ones featuring just the SuperChargers...

I am confused, and I a not even in the market to buy :W

I have recently had a Callaway conversion performed on my 03 vette convertible at Tom Oates Chevrolet in Chester Springs, Pa. The car performed beautifully until I Finally decided to air it out. It was a maniac until I hit 90mph, at which time it bogged down and would not go any faster. It is back at the Oates agency, and they found the #2 cylinder not getting fuel. Calloway is now involved as well as GM to find a cure. This is not an indictment of Tom Oates or Calloway, as I feel they are working hard for a fix and I'm confident they will come up with a cure. Either way, all expenses are being covered by either Calloway or GM depending upon who turns out to be at fault. The car is a 2003 with 10,000 miles, and yes the factory warranty and the extended warranty are still valid after the Calloway installation. Any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Welcome to the Forum.
It is with an "a", Not an "o". I had the same spelling problem with a car show I entered this weekend and it was a Corvette show. I hope they get it all fixed for you quickly. With Callaways help that should happen.:D

The problem is obvious..........you'd probably be better off dealing with the folks at Callaway

I am embarassed that I spelled Callaway incorrectly. You would think that you would know the name of the company that you spent so much money with!! Thanks for the good wishes.

You are correct. I am switching to CALLAWAY immediately, as soon as I get over my embarassment. 03vette
