I thought I'd share some memories surrounding the tremendous turnout that we had for the 2nd CAC Callaway gathering. Some of it's funny, some of it's sentimentel and other things just will never be forgotten. Add some of your own...

1. Friday morning in the fairgrounds just after getting the cars all lined up nice and neat... a very serious passerby questioned, "Are these all kit cars?" :L

2. Watching CC's video of the Callaway C8 Camaro being driven by Mike Zoner as he was tearing up Englishtown Raceway in Jersey... we were watching this on the Callaway projection screen and listening to the audio through wireless speakers at the booth. After running the video many times a rather elderly man who was the proprietor of the space across from Callaway came over and offered his cranky point of view, "I'm trying to have a conversation over here! Would you turn that down!" -- Yeah sure gramps... go ahead and talk some more to your imaginary customers! There was nothing on display over there! :SLAP

3. Seeing Steve Mangustaman's CR1 #1 for the 1st time. I've always seen the picture of that car in front of the Chicago skyline but now appreciate it that much more after seeing it in person. Plus, the pile of receipts that the original owner forwarded? WOW!

4. Exhibitions of Speed and Callaway Car Performance Testing -- If you were there... you know what I mean!

5. How is a pile of 4 or 5 olives in a single martini significant? Well, after some people had 4 martini's... they didn't know the difference! ;) I think the bartender had a few too many too!

6. Accidentally meeting up with Luigi in the hotel corridor on Saturday night. Hadn't seen him all year and there he was! He was kind enough to help me carry the cooler full of beer to the banquet about a mile away. :drink <--- We did well.. there were only 3 Yuenglings left after the evening.

7. I've lived in Pennsylvania all my life and I can honestly say that I never expected to drive around the Capitol building of the state for the 1st time while being completely lost. Even better, looping around that building in a Callaway Corvette.. oh, and I swear that whoever was driving that Callaway Freelander was trying to ditch us! :Steer

8. Being picked as one of the 120 or so cars for the Celebrity Pick Parade. I must say that I've been going to Carlisle for 10+ years for this event and this is the 1st time that I had such an active role. It was quite an honor!

9. Hearing/seeing Skip and the guy from Australia (sorry, name forgotten). These dudes would go at it! Ultimate ball busting car guy humor at it's best!

10. Bloomington Gold for 2004? You bet! The Special Collections director was telling us directly that Callaway cars will be the Special Collection car for the 2004 show! :cool

Add a couple of your thoughts... it doesn't have to be 10... just let us know what was memorable for yourself...

Looks like we might have a nice little caravan to Bloomington next June. The events director for Bloomington choose my Callaway as his celebrity pick and has already extended an invitation to me to be in the special collections display. Told him to go ahead and PEN me in.

Number 1 reason for a Callaway Owner

Having to put my mechanical skills to work again to help a Callaway owner back on the road again. Also I had to use my football lineman skills to work and move his car to where it needed to be ......... at the GAS PUMP :duh ;LOL ;LOL Yes Callaway cars do RUN on GAS.;LOL

In somewhat random order...

1. All the fun ALL weekend long :m

2. Pairing up w/ Joanne Mercer to win the *team challenge* in the creeper races - Way to go Joanne ;)

3. Seeing old friends and making many more new ones - One owner commented on how he "felt like part of the Callaway Family" :)

4. validation of performance
bat_angel.gif

5. finding gills on the chicken ;)

6. M. Zoner "Blessing" the SNAT 10 years after it was constructed :upthumbs

7. Kevin's AWESOME new trailer - Man, it could be lived in!!! (Nice)

8. That bottle of Callaway Wine, poolside Thursday night :m

9. The WILD ride through Harrisburg following the Freelander - A SNAT 425, a B2K w/ meg's, and a CR1 all howling through the capitol.

10. Seeing all the Callaways - Some new ones came out for the show - Steve (Mangusta's new CR1) Steve D's blue CR1, the C12 Speedster and everyone else's B2K & SNAT's

Here's to next year :beer

Here are a few...

1. Having the support of great friends to help me think when my brain doesn't function. And also the muscle to push the car. Hey, at least I stopped AT a gas station. :SLAP :L Thanks Pete and Luigi.

2. Smokin' Joe's parking lot tire toasting show with his TT. :bu

3. Mike Zoner's body surfing creeper dive.

4. Four Callaway Aerobody cars (3 TTs and a CR1) punishing a Z06 that wanted to play on the highway... funny thing was we weren't even trying. :Steer

5. Pete carrying two five gallon cans of race gas out of the hotel like they were his luggage.

6. A certain pink Hawaiian shirt....

7. Getting lost trying to follow the Callaway cars to dinner in a Yukon Denali... but having a great time anyway at a cool restaurant with Paul, Cameron and Lauri. All except the poor dude who was hit and run by a dark Corvette outside the restaurant while we where there. Note that Eric's car is UNdented.

8. Mike Z's tales about the early days at Callaway Cars... Knock Knock :L

9. Having my girlfriend to ride shotgun and take some highway shots of our little caravan this year. (I'll post some this week.)

10. Just seeing everyone again and hanging out having a good time. Also the comaraderie with all the folks from Callaway Cars... a super bunch of people.

Thanks to everyone for another great time... looking forward to next year already. :beer

Another good memory-- I spent a couple hours talking with Dave Fulcher who did/does tons of work on Callaway Corvettes as an ace mechanic at his dealership in Georgia. Had I not been going over my car with David I would never have known that my '87 TT has had the updated frame piece for fresh air intake to the turbos. Apparently the initial '87 design encroached upon the crank pulley to the point that belt changes were almost impossible. The newer design made things much easier.
Thanks for all the tech tips Dave!

Great List Kevin :m

After he poured it, it was like LeMans Cologne in the air
Did Pete shoot any flames w/ that stuff??

On the downside, Natasha did not get that ride in the silver streak :( ...next year for sure :)

#1

Meeting all the Callaway owners. What a Great bunch of people. Speading the information on these RARE cars.Hanging out with The Callaway Workers not only do these guys work hard they also know how to PARTY hard also. I want to thank everyone for a great time.:) :bar :bar

Amen to that Pete :beer

Guys - My brother appreciated the warm welcome when he drove our SNAT up to the show

He had mentioned the C12 of course being one of his favorites as well as, the Callaway GS cars and the Aqua-teal CR1's we up there on his list :)

He claimed to have driven the speed limit however, the avg. MPG went from 16 MPG or so, down to 11 MPG, Hmmmmmm ;)

What a great show :upthumbs
