1986 Black Coupe RPO Z51
I recently got a new engine (overhauled) and tranny.
so I decided to save for a second Vette instead selling the 1986
I bought me a weatherstrip set, leather seatcovers and carpetset to celebrate it's a keeper :D
I will start a thread in a few days about the interior renewal/

Now I got lucky last month in the lottery and won me about $ 1000 and all to spend on the Vette,
the Wife was already pleased with an afternoon of shopping and a dinner with candlelight.:upthumbs

anyhow, The question I have for you guys, I have a standard L98 with cast iron heads and the only mods I have installed currently is a replacement Green airfilter and an Air Pump Replacement Pulley Kit.

what other small things can I buy to improve torque and for better combustion resulting fuel economy.

I see these low budget HP kits advertised at MAM, Ecklers and others

- reduced diameter pulley with serpentine
- Throttle Body Flow Booster
- fuel pressure regulator
- Power Tower Spacer Plate's (manifold bolt-on)
- Performance computer chip
etc, etc

Alot of people will argue all of these mods, especially the TB flow booster, but when you start adding them all up it's a handful of HP you did not have befor.

I would think more along the line of porting the intake and plenum and heads, maybe bigger rockers or a combo set 1.52/1.6.

My guess is that they are right Jeroen. All I learned so far: the best way to start improving your L98 is by adding long tube headers and take it from there...

My two cents on underdrive pulleys:

I had a March three-pulley set on my '87. When the car was idling, like at a stoplight, the volts would drop to about 12.5 or so. If you had headlights, wipers, and the A/C on (suppose it's raining and humid) the car would about stall out. I hated them for that reason. It may be a better charging system, different sized pulleys, etc, will mean that's not a problem for you. But just keep in mind that it is trading something off for any power gains.

For $1,000, I would go for a set of long tubes and a set of 1.6 roller rockers. You could probably see a solid 20 HP increase with that if you also went with an exhaust system. The stock L98 system only flows out of one outlet on each muffler.

I forgot to mention that I have a stainless steel custom exhaust system.
from the main CAT on, so the 3 cats are still there.

I saw on Ebay a set of Callaway headers for LT-1 LT-4, are they too fit a L98 cast-iron heads ??

I am not in the leap to increase massive HP , I am satisfied with current performance,
I just want the car to have a good flowsystem and optimal combustion process. for better mileage and smoother running.

The Vette is mainly used for cruising and sometimes a trafficlight ass kicking.
I love to kill these ricers and vw spoilered/neon lighted/turn up the bass cars.

I drive my Renault 5 Turbo on the tracks as their handling is more like a
go-kart
with 170HP and only 800 kg.
