78 Pace Car imposter
It looks like I may be getting rid of my '78. The car that I wanted to buy , before the Vette, is back on the market. I need your estemmed opinion on a couple things.

1. Price - I paid $9500 for it last Spring. It has 66,000 miles on it. It pulled to the right when I got it. I figured it needed a front end alignment. I took it in. I found out it had been in a wreck at one time. So, I paid $400 and had the frame straightened. That took care of the pulling. I replaced both rear calipers. This Spring I had the seats redone ($1,100). They are like brand new. The tops have cracks on the outside, but no leaking. I was going to ask $10,500. Is that too much? I hate to take any more of a bath on it.

2. Is there a "better" place to list it? I was thinking local paper and EBAY. Any other good places.

You can see photos of the car at my webpage

BTW... it is NOT a apce car. It is an SA model with the L-48 Automatic. Turned 15.3 at the strip.

Sounds like you are trying to get out of the car what you put into it. Which is a lot of time what a lot of people do. However, that doesn't always work out. You have a great looking car with some good style to it. I am guessing the engine bay is as clean as the outside? If you are looking for the car to have a return on your investment, you should hang onto it for a much longer time. The car is 27 years old, and at this point, with as low mileage as you have, the price won't go down (I wouldn't think).
If you don't mind me asking, what is the other car that is now on the market that you want?

It's a 64 Galxie 500 XL. Bucket seats, 390. A real 'lead sled'. Wife's uncle has been sitting on it. Pretty cherry shape. And, it has a back seat for the grandkids :-)

What are you trying to say? Not enough room in the back of the Corvette for the grandkids? :D I guess I just don't understand as I don't even have kids :W

I personally like having the excuse of not being able to haul around people or objects larger then the "crawl" space in the back of the Corvette.

depending upon your time schedule, you might want to check the local papers and see if there are any comparable vettes for sale and what they are asking for them, second, i would check out some of the local cruise ins and car shows to see if anyone has something similar for sale, and what they are asking (remember asking and getting are sometimes extreme opposites). if you find something similar for sale, ask how long it's been for sale and that should give you at least an indication of the reality of the asking price. my personal opinion is that for the advertising $$ hemmings motor news offers the best exposure. (www.hemmings.com). it's very difficult to gauge the going price in your area by comparing it to sale results of auctions, etc in other parts of the US.

check out ebay and see if similar cars are bringing the kind of $$ you seek. remember you can always set the reserve at a level you are comfortable with and hope it gets met. you will probably get more bidders by pointing out any of the shortcomings of the car as part of the description in addition to the good points. detailed photos in the ebay description (try to imagine what you would want to see if you were a bidder instead of the seller) are a must. there are lots of picture host sites that will help you organize your display.

hope some of these suggestions help you out a bit. keep in mind, they are just my opinions and there are probably a million other suggerstions out there.
