OK, I figured it's time to trace down that pesky ATF leak. Cleaned the underside last month and crawled under yesterday.
Pan was clean and dry, same with the driveshaft seal area.
Ah-ha, there it is...the speedo cable. (thank you corvette gods)

I took it apart and if memory serves me correctly there is supposed to be an "O" ring that goes in there. I put one on the lip of the trans that gets compressed between the inner flange of the cable end when the outer ring gets tightened down.

No more leak but....

Should there be an "O" ring in there????????

Nope. There's an O-ring on the O.D. of the "bullet" where it fits in the hole in the tranny, but not where the ferrule on the end of the cable housing threads onto the "bullet". There's also a small circular lip seal inside the end of the "bullet" where the plastic speedo gear goes through it.

There is an o-ring on the "bullet", as well as the "lip" seal in the end of the bullet, that seals the gear itself. If the inner seal is leaking, and you've installed a seal of sorts on the cable end itself, the trans fluid will wind up on your shoes, eventually! The spinning action of the speedo cable inside the housing will "wick" the fluid up to the instrument cluster connection, and then it will start dripping out, normally on your brand new shoes...
You should correct the leak at the bullet, with a new inner gear seal, to solve the problem.
