Ok I have had number of problems and have had my 700R4 rebuilt 3 times now! Still Iam not happy. Are these things that hard to build or modify?

GM had it first...result sloppy shifting pattern.
My tranny guy checked it out said it would need rebuilding. Rebuilt the thing and it blows up 1 week later. He rebuilt it again saying that the parts that were sent him were faulty. Rebuilt no cost to me. Result shifts ok but seems off. It holds 1st to 2nd under WOT conditions way way too long in my opinion. On my mostly stock 1990 its out of breath at like 4400 rpms and yet the car is still trying and not shifting till 5200-5500 so she is literally screaming and just holding the note but not going anywhere. I told my tranny guy about hearing about changing the weights and springs around in the governor and he just gave me dirty looks and sighs. He is like ”noo nooooo nahh you don't want to do that you'll be in for more trouble then its worth. You can't just change weights and springs around without it affecting the rest of the transmission work that I have already done. The valvebody would have to be rebuilt and its just a pain. Try just adjusting the tv cable a tad to the more looser position.”

So guys help me out, do you think he is telling the truth or should I just bring the car to another transmission place. I really hate loseing street races (Iam in the country) and don't even want to attempt to bring it to Lebanon cause I know it probably won't even be in the 15 second bracket cause of my 1st to 2nd hesitation. Bottom line is I want it fixed but don't want to have to pay for a rebuild again and don't want to screw the tranny up in any way that it won't work properly.

All tranny rebuilders welcome to chime in. I only wish I knew more about them cause its been the one thing thats been haunting me since I have owned the car.

UPDATE: 4/16/06

I took her out yesterday and Iam really happy with the car, just discouraged thinking the potential it has, but the tranny holding it back.

If Iam doing like 35 or 40 and nail it...forget it. it first drops down to first revs there at like 5200 for about 2 seconds, slams into 2nd. spins the tires really bad then finally goes....This sound normal? I don't think it is suppose to do this. I tried some other things while out. If I gently coast holding it in first and then give it 1/2 to 3/4 thats bout all I can do in order to keep the tranny to shift somewhat acceptable. If I floor it, again forget it, she'll rev to again 5200 before she shifts.

All I want is to be able to get the thing to not hesitate going from 1st to 2nd. Be quick and near about 4400.

My thoughts are the cable is too Tight!!!! Was it ever adjusted right to Begin with????? You can try to loosen it a notch at a time!!! Or you can start over and adjust it, and go from there!! Thats what I'd do!!!!!

Push release on cable and pull it Tight as it will go, get in car and Slowly depress the Gas peddle completely to the floor as far as it will go!! You should hear a zip sound, and let off. Do this again making sure peddle is completely to the Floor,You may hear a click or two at the very bottom!! Try it There if that doesn't help, back cable a notch at a time!! Good Luck!!:upthumbs

Uhhh....have to rebuild the valve body to change governor springs? I don't see the logic behind that. "Rebuilding" it again won't fix your shift points...that's going to take some tweaking of the TV cable and/or governer springs.

Question...how are the light throttle shift points? Late? Early? Just right?

If you back off the TV adjustment (decreasing line pressure)...your light throttle shift points will drop as well. If you can live with that...then that's probably your best bet.

Oh and to answer your question...YES they ARE that complicated! I'm finding out the hard way. :L
