Well it is pretty near the end of the season here in PA and my '95 is showing signs of tranny rebuild. 4th gear is slipping and the fluid is a dirty brown, and I just changed the filter and fluid in April.
Anyway I see that a new 4L60E from the GM parts guys is about $1800. Tempting, but it is advertised as the trans that is stock in the Tahoe.
Are all 4L60e's the same?
Also does anyone have any experience with the national type rebuilders like ATK(sp?)?
Thanks in advance...

Pete

Trans Rebuild

I just had the trans rebuilt in my 92. Mine is a 700R trans. I did some research on the internet. One such site is www.netgearhead.net. You can find out all you need to know about your transmission on this site. You can even post questions and their techs will respond back. You can get pricing and they can let you know where the closest installer would be to you. I had my trans rebuilt at the shop I go to for corvette club meetings. I spent about $2,500 but that included a new 2500 stall torque convertor. There is also another manufacturer on the net I found called "Raptor" transmissions. Hope that helps.

To my knowledge there are a few parts in it that are Corvette specific.

Trans rebuild

Elk Neck Transmission rebuilt mine last Feb for $1600 including a guarantee. Lots of new parts including the torque convertor. Off the road for only a day and a half. They're about 60 miles south of Harrisburg in Northeast MD.
Runs like a top.

Thanks for the replies. I have since found out that the new trans offered by GM although a 4l60E, WILL NOT work in the '95. Go figure.
In fact they don't offer new, you have to buy a factory reman. That place in MD sounds like it might be a winner. Will only take about a 2 hour drive from where I live in PA.
I'm getting a lift in the next few weeks, so I'll probably put off the trans rebuild until I get the lift paid for...:L
