hi all, so I don;t exactly know everything about corvettes but i'm working on it. But I have a question about C5 transmissions. Can they be bolted on to other engines? for instance, i want to put a nice 6-speed tranny behind my 454 in my '56 Studebaker. I already installed c4 front and rear suspension and wanted to keep the corvette flavor alive in my car by using a corvette tranny (plus I love the transmission in my '01 vette, so smooth) so thats my situation any help would be much appreciated or if you have any advice for another transmission that would work I would greatly appreciate it. thanks

C5 Transmissions are not mounted to the engine, they are mounted directly to the rear axle.;shrugAs such won't work in your scenario.:duh

However, your thought is sound.
You can attempt to use a T56 out of a Camaro, with the bellhousing.
My key would be to determine your torque rating of your big block and will the T56 handle it.
If not, another thought would be a 4L80 because that transmission WOULD hold up.

ok great, thank you for your help, actually I have a contact here in town that specializes in corvettes, camaros and firebirds and I'm going to get a transmnission from him from a '93 vette. Sound like a good idea instead? he said he'll sell the whole setup for $1800 and that its stronger than the camaro LS1 transmission

Hi there,
ZF six speed out of a 1993 Corvette maybe, but I am still not satisfied that it will handle the torque of a big block.
ZF is also tough to get internal parts for, like syncronizers and gears.
