I have a 1993 lt1 automatic 150k miles don't know if the trans has ever been serviced.

The transmission shifts fine. Shift points on easy acceleration are about 8 mph 1-2, 15mph 2-3, 22mph 3-4 lock up at 42mph. No slips, slow shifts, chatters. Trans fluid is dark but doesn't smell burnt.
I have noticed that after warm up lock up doesn't work. I did electrical check and there is a TCC signal at all necessary times.

On the hwy it starts by TCC drop out while cruising the goes in as soon as you push on the accelerator and holds while accelerating. Let up ahd TCC drops out. Later when warmer it just stays unlocked.

Today I am changing fluid and filter. Also I am going to replace the TCC solenoid because I am in there.

When I removed the pan there was very little residue in the bottom but some powered like metal on the magnet. There was a larger piece on metal too. I am attaching some pictures of the pan, the magnet, and metal piece.

I don't think the metal on the magnet is excessive for the age. I do wonder where the piece on metal came from.

We'll see what happens when I'm done

Thanks for your comments

Don't look too bad for that kind of miles!!:thumb
So who jammed it in Park while it was roll'n and knocked 1 of the teeth off the park gear??;shrug

Shouldn't hurt anything,it'll just have a little slack in park at that 1 position where it's missing!:thumb
:D

Here's an update

Fluid and filter is changed! Found B&M trickshift synthetic on clearance 2.95 so used that. Beats the price of standard fluid.
Checked the TCC solenoid with a new one. I could blow in the new one but could not suck. Blowing was free.
Did the same to the old one. Could blow AND suck and there was resistance in both directions. Was replacing it any way so maybe it was bad.
Went on a test drive and TCC worked fine when everything at operating temp.:beer

Bad news is I found wet coolant residue on the crossmember underneath. That's Thrs. project. Be taking a look at w.p. and opti.
Oh well it's a used car;shrug

In looking at the pictures of the pan I noticed that the magnet has a piece missing from it that looks a lot like the loose piece in your pictures

That's probably where I stuck my finger in the sludge. magnet was all there after cleaning

I'd advise everyone to go to a synthetic trans fluid when doing a full service. Fleet reports show a dramatic drop in auto-trans failures after switching to synthetics. If I remember correctly, a fleet of 300 had an avg of 6 internally failed units annually. After switching to syn fluid that dropped to zero.

yep....parking pawl. Not the valet. funny, if he was also toothless, he probably would'nt work either.:~)

Good Luck!

Good to know it's only park gear tooth. Won't worry 'bout that. Trans still working like it should. Now on to the water pump. Starting a new post.
