Think my transmission has decided it's time to be rebuilt. 2nd gear is 80/20 that it will work. 3rd gear is 30/70 that it won't. Reverse is 10/90 that it won't and if it does - it's very hard. (Removing the linkage from reverse and shifting it manually - it's very hard.) Little earlier than I had hoped but not unexpected. So you order a kit to rebuild which replaced gaskets, bearings, synchros, and a host of little parts. Any other nuggets of wisdom out there? Get the video that I see advertised? Never done a Muncie but have been in to a couple Ford transmissions.

Any bit of wisdom will be appreciated.

P.S. Yes I did align the shifter four times and had it checked after the fourth go by "One who knows". Thanks.

If you'v been in a gear BOX You'll Probly be allright!! Get ya a book,it'll be Fine!! But I'd Check out the Cluch First!! Sometimes a cluch get's Stickie if thay set around alot!!:upthumbs junk!!

Don't skimp on the rebuild kit. Get a complete one complete with cluster pin and input nut. I HIGHLY recommend the video. This project will be easy for you because you've already been inside a transmission. There are a butload of little parts but the construction of the Muncie is relatively straightforward. Be sure to check gears and sliders and forks for wear like the video shows. If your gears are marginal, you may be able to get another use out of them with torque-lock sliders.

check out some of my rebuild pics from last year:

I took the easy way out with my 66 M21 trans .I had a leak in the front of the case i could neverer fix. I sent my tranny to Ed Hartnet out of PA What a pleasue to deal with .

the leak was from the main shaft and he had to rebush my trans case. There is alot of things I will attempt but this was not one of them for me.

Where is the best place to get replacement parts(rebuild kit and misc. parts) for the Muncie? I think I am going to do mine this winter when I replace the clutch.

Thanks

I found these guys ( www.5speeds.com ) and think they have a good kit (See allcoupedup's post about not skimping on the kit). When I first started looking I pretty much figured a kit was a kit but when you look at what's in there, you find it ain't so. They also have quite a stock of other parts (like shift forks and gears) that you can order individually if you need to replace some of the more major components not in the kit.

Thanks to the rest of you for your insight. Think I will order the video just as a precaution.
