There is a "light" or bulb next to the words Trip monitor on my dash. It has never been lit. What is this? Can I use it somehow?

It's not a light. It is a sensor for the speedometer display. Turn the ignition key to the Run position during the daytime, put your finger over the opening and watch the speedo background display change brightness.

That shud be the Ambient Light Sensor. It controls the back lighting on the radio & hvac, if you have the C68 Electrinic Climate Control & some other stuff.

If it lights up you have some significant problems, Just Kiddin! You can use a small brush to keep dust out. It's the same function, basically, as the Sun load Sensor in the middle of the upper trim panel grille next to the windshield.
