I'm relatively new to the Vette scene....my wife and purchased our first this past spring. The problem happened once before in early June.....now it's become a real problem.....car won't start due to either a bad Passkey or Ignition lock.....that's what we were told. I guess before we haul it in, just looking for the best solution.....should we start with a new key?? Just looking for any advice from others!!

Hi there,
Please us the link at the top of the section and obtain your diagnostic trouble codes.

If you have a B2721/B2723, I would agree with the lock cylinder.

Please post all codes in ALL MODULES.

c4c5,

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not exactly sure which link you're talking about to obtain diagnostic codes. And here's probably a stupid question, but how do you actually obtain the codes from the vette. Remember, I'm in the infancy stage of the whole corvette thing.....I've been reading tons of stuff, but I'm still completely over my head.

c4c5,

Thanks a million!! I'll check the codes tonight after work.

Again.....thanks alot for helping out a "rookie".

Charged the battery overnight.....went out this morning, and it still didn't start.
If the battery was dead, which I'm not sure if it was completely or not.....do I have to reset anything with the PassKey?? Any suggestions would be great....I'm stuck right now.

Hang tight there eightball88, Paul will be back to give you a hand.

HI there,
Ok, first, your battery need to have at least 12.5 volts and 500 CCA in order for your electrical system to work correctly.

Your battery terminal bolts NEED TO BE TORQUED to 11 ft lbs.

After that, you do NOT HAVE ANY diagnostic trouble codes to correlate an ignition switch failure.

If, after you have replaced your battery and torqued to spec, you are still having problems, I would be looking right at your starter.

Allthebest, c4c5

c4c5,

Thanks a ton for the help, I truly appreciate you lending a hand!!
The vette fired right up today with a completely charged battery.....so I've got it stored in my heated garage for the winter with a battery tender. Next spring, I'll get a new battery installed and hopefully will be good to go.

I'm learning as we go about vettes.....and again, thanks for the help!!
